  • Does the Elite Jet-Flo Internal Aquarium Filter 75 need a venturi plug?

I have just bought the Elite Jet-Flo 75 and it has a venturi system. I don't want to use the venturi system as I have plenty of air - this is a 25L tank I will use for quarantine and hospitalisation. I have read that other systems with venturi e.g. Fluval have a 'venturi plug' (and manual says if you don't use it the fish could be in danger). I just want to use the output adaptor without attaching the tubing etc. I don't understand why the fish would be in danger, there is no suction or air coming out of the venturi outlet and it is not big enough for fish to swim into.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Not overstocked for a 40g aquarium?

    3 x Pearl Gourami

    4 x Red-eye Tetra

    3 x Zebra Danio

    4 x YoYo Loach

2 x Flame Red Dwarf Gourami

    I want to add:-

    2 x blue dwarf gourami

    2 x blue german rams

    1 x zebra danio

    German 'Blue Ram

I have calculated that the total of these fish fully grown is under 40g.

I have a well planted tank with driftwood (with caves), rocks, small gravel.

Water condition is very healthy and everyone gets on well.

Interested to hear some opinions :)

    thanks

  • How would 2 blue german rams would go with 2 pearl gourami?

How would 2 blue german rams would go with 2 pearl gourami? I also have 2 zebra danios, 4 red eye tetras and 2 mystery snails in my 40g (150l) freshwater aquarium.

BTW....i think my pearl gourami may be both males (I got them as juveniles) so I am going to get a female pearl gourami. Then I plan to get a couple of powder blue dwarf gourami. Of course, I will wait until my tank is established for 6 months before thinking about my rams!!! :)

Thanks for all your advice, in advance...

  • just over 5 weeks cycling 40g tank ammonia 1, nitrite 0, nitrate 15 - is API test kit showing false ammonia?

The last couple of nights I added about 10% in total, now my ammonia is still showing 1.00, nitrite 0.00, nitrate 15.00

Do you think the API test kit is showing a false ammonia reading? Is it safe to add fish, or should I get the Seachem Multitest Ammonia kit?

  • my tank cycling seems to have plateaued?

It is a 40g tank in about its 5th week of cycling, at the moment I have one red eye tetra and two snails in it and they seem pretty happy and healthy. I am feeding small amount once a day with flakes. I don't really want to add chemicals to 'help' the cycle along, I have my temp slightly higher tho not too high for the fish. No water changes. I am thinking about adding a zebra danio tomorrow.

What do you think? Here's my readings for the last week (ammonia/nitrite/nitrate)

    19/07/2008 1.50 0.75 7.50

    20/07/2008 2.00 1.00 7.50

    21/07/2008 2.00 1.00 7.50

    22/07/2008 2.00 2.00 7.50

    24/07/2008 1.00 3.50 7.50

    25/07/2008 1.50 2.00 7.50

  • do snails sleep and for how long?

i have a 20l tank with a couple of gouramis and a red eye tetra, they are going brilliantly waiting for their 150l tank to cycle. All very active, growing and best colours. However, my 2 mystery snails have been at the top for a few hours. They look a good colour but they are not moving, even when I emptied some of the tank. Nice helpful answers please...:)

  • should this tank cycle in another couple of weeks?

Hi, these are my ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels over the last 5 days. I have a red eye tetra in there (he was bullying a mate in the other tank horribly), and a small-medium mystery snail.

It is 4 weeks old, I am feeding small amounts of flake to the tetra once a day he always eats it all, and just a little of bit of a cooked peeled pea later at night which is usually gone in the morning.

I am not doing any water changes and I have some nice brown stuff on my filter sponge and on the driftwood.

    Ammonia Nitrites Nitrates

    2.00 0.50 10.00

    1.50 0.75 7.50

    2.00 1.00 7.50

    2.00 1.00 7.50

    2.00 2.00 7.50

p.s. maybe I got the Nitrate lvl wrong on the first day...

    thanks for your help :)

    4 Zebra Danio

    3 YoYo Loach

    4 Dwarf Gourami

    2 Silver Dollar

  • do i need to 'feed' my tank more if ammonia@2 & nitrite@.10?

have been cycling 40g tank for 4 weeks, ammonia is at 2 and nitrite is at .10. Should I feed my tank a bit more so the ammonia goes up, or can i now just watch the nitrates start to rise?
