just over 5 weeks cycling 40g tank ammonia 1, nitrite 0, nitrate 15 - is API test kit showing false ammonia?

The last couple of nights I added about 10% in total, now my ammonia is still showing 1.00, nitrite 0.00, nitrate 15.00

Do you think the API test kit is showing a false ammonia reading? Is it safe to add fish, or should I get the Seachem Multitest Ammonia kit?

Update:

i mean i have added Prime over the last two nights to a total of around 10% (1 inch?) to the tank

Update 2:

just to clarify, I added 10% prime-treated water in total over last 2 nights

thanks for your response, I am going to get the Prime test kit because I have heard it will read the free ammonia

You are getting very close to being done with your cycle. Sometimes the ammonia test can give a false reading, if you think that has happened then rise the vile out very very well and run the test again.

This has happened to me I thought my kit was no good so I bought another one completely cleaned out the old vile and ran both test and I got the same reading (the correct reading).

your ammonia is still toxic. there is a exp. date on the bottle. wait until your cycle is complete to add more fish. your cycle is almost done.
