  • Just to clear things up a little....are you aware?

Over the last couple of days I have seen repeated references to an incident in China where a man attacked a school with a knife. I have seen person after person state that 22 people died in this attack. I would like to make clear the facts, easily verifiable by looking for news reports on the incident.

22 people, including children, received MINOR injuries during an attack by a nutter armed with a knife. NO ONE died in the attack, the attacker was overwhelmed easily and the attack stopped.

Any comments anyone? Anyone want to refute these FACTS with verifiable evidence to the contrary?

  • Why are we allowing the Aussie travel section to be used as a political platform?

Why has it become ok for the TRAVEL section of YA to be used as a political platform for the views of a select few? This section is supposed to be about TRAVEL IN AUSTRALIA........not the political views of a few regulars. Isnt it time that we got back to the subject at hand?

  • For all my fellow BSE adoptees and natural parents?

I thought that you might like to read this and know that there ARE people who are listening.

    http://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Commi...

The recommendations in the report are incredible, including the suggestion that we be legally allowed to use our OBC's.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this incredible report.

  • Why do people assume a link between lower adoption rates and increased abortion rates?

Australia has very low infant adoption rates, less than 200/year but our abortion rate is no higher than anywhere else, neither is there a startling discrepancy in the number of child abuse rates reported annually. There is absolutely no evidence to support the theory that reducing the number of newborn adoptions and encouraging women to parent their babies leads to an increase in the number of abortions or in the number of parents abusing their children, yet we see it repeatedly claimed on here that it does......could someone explain this to me please, preferably with proof that supports your argument.

  • Why do people come on here to answer questions only to abuse the asker?

I find this particularly prevalent in the pregnancy section where teenage girls who ask for help and advice are routinely abused instead of being given useful information or help. What do those who do this achieve by abusing a girl for something that is already done and cant be changed?

  • Who should be considered responsible?

If a child adopted from Russia is abused by his/her adoptive parents (US), who should be held responsible for that abuse? The orphanage in Russia for "lying" about the way the child was raised, or the adoptive parents who committed the abuse? As far as Im concerned the fault always lays in the hands of the abusers whether the child is adopted or not. What do you think?

This question is in response to an answer given to a Q regarding the Dr Phill child abuse video.

  • What is your opinion on this?

This has hit the Australian news in a major way today and it got me curious as to what people on here think, lets face it, most people in this section of YA are known for having fairly strong opinions....

First question: What do you personally think about this couple aborting because the babies were male?

Second question: Do you think that they should be allowed gender selection procedures. even though gender selection is illegal here except under certain, very narrow, circumstances? Do you think the rules should be bent for this couple to prevent the aborting more male pregnancies?

Third question: Do you think that instead, as suggested in the article, they should simply adopt a girl, bearing in mind that in Australia it is very difficult to adopt a newborn at all?

  • Australian parents, what is your opinion of this?

    http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Finmem...

Do you think that the Department of Community Services should have the right to take custody of children for the purpose of forcing them to have medical treatments that are ineffective and dangerous? Neither the child in this case, or her parents, wanted her to have the chemo, her condition was clearly terminal and all that DoCs did was make the end of her life a torturous hell. What is your opinion on the subject and what should we, as Aussie parents, be doing to make sure this doesnt happen to us or our children?

  • Question about cyberknife treatment?

My dad has been diagnosed with secondaries from asbestos cancer following surgery to remove part of his lung last year. Here in Australia his only option is 36 sessions of radiation over 6 weeks followed by chemo, to us this is far from satisfactory. At the moment he is extremely fit and healthy, apart from the cancer of course, and still playing golf up to 3 times most weeks. I have been doing some research, bless the internet, and have discovered cyberknife therapy which to me seems like a much better option and offers my father the best chance of enjoying the time he has left.

Has anyone had any experience of the cyberknife treatment? Especially regarding any side effects and the overall effectiveness of treatment? It is not available here and my dad would have to travel overseas for treatment at a cost of about $60000 australian, so Id like as much info as possible.

  • What do you think the penalty should be for arsonists?

Its a really hot day here 37 degrees celcius and as usual the firies are out and the water bombers are zooming around overhead because some total idiot has decided to start a bush fire, this time only 150 metres away from a light industrial area. So tell me, what do you think the penalty should be for this?
