How can I generate a random number that has a binomial distribution?
I'm making a simulation in which a random event with probability p is simulated n times, and I want to count up the number of times this happens each step.
Obviously the easiest way would be to make a loop and play it out n times, but the n in my simulation undergoes exponential growth so this would be completely impractical.
Does anyone know a formula or technique I could use to simulate the sum of all these trials? The result should be random each time but follow a binomial distribution in the long term.
Please ask if you're not sure what I'm after.
2 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoHow do I play an mkv movie and listen to all 6 channels of audio on 2 speakers?
I'm trying to watch an mkv movie on my computer, but I think some of the audio is being ignored. Most noticeably, the music is very faint or impossible to hear, while the voiceover is very loud. I assume this is because some of the channels are not being played.
I'm just looking for a way to tell the computer to play all tracks in stereo, does anyone know the best way to do that? I'm using vlc media player at the moment but I am willing to get another if it will solve the problem.
The audio is apparently: ND HE-AAC 6ch
Thanks in advance...

1 AnswerWords & Wordplay1 decade agoCheap, disposable paint brush alternative?
Can someone please advise me about a cheap alternative to using a paint brush?
I'm asking because I'm using liquid latex which seems to be impossible to remove from the bristles, rendering the brush useless in a couple of minutes.
2 AnswersOther - Visual Arts1 decade agoAcute, generalised pain, worse when breathing... anyone know what it is?
A few minutes ago I started getting weird pain in my abdomen, from the front, central area to up under my ribs, and it radiates up over my chest when breathing. When it's worse it feels like it hurts at the back of my throat and around my eyes.
Here's what it's not:
- Heart pain.
- Asthma/respiratory problems.
- So serious that I need to seek medical attention.
I think it's probably a mild abdominal problem... does anyone recognise these symptoms?
I'm male, 19.

2 AnswersPerth1 decade agoWill taking a flixotide inhaler significantly affect a mantoux test?
I'm having a mantoux test for tuberculosis on Wednesday and I'm a little concerned about taking my flixotide inhaler which contains 250 ug of fluticasone propionate.
The test works by observing an immune response and flitocasone is a corticosteroid which suppresses immune response.
Should I maybe not take it this week? (I'm not going to die of an asthma attack if I skip a few doses). Anyone know if there are rules on this?
