How was plague caught from infected corpses?

For example when corpses were thrown by catapult into Caffa in the 14th Century, how did it infect living people?

Was it blood, fleas, bacteria in the air...

Please cite some source so I know that your answers are credible.

Update:

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone by asking for sources, I have researched and speculated myself but I was wondering if anyone knew for sure.

This isn't homework btw, just personal interest.

Uh, it wasn't directly from the corpses. It was as you said, from the fleas biting the humans. The fleas got it from biting the rats they lived on. That is still how bubonic plague is spread even now. I was a newspaper reporter many many years ago in the 1970's and they had cases of it in a few humans and in many squirrels in the parks. It doesn't happen often and when it does, we have antibiotics that destroy it, so don't worry.

  • Well, I can't give you any sources other then my knowledge of it. The plague was spread by fleas who lived on rats, and back in those days the rats were every where so they practicly lived with the people in there own houses. Not soon after, the people started to catch this. They would get big red bumps all over there body and soon they would die. When the bodies ere thrown over, the sickness is still pretty much in there. The plague was HIGHLY contagious so anyone who wasnt wearing something over ther mouth would definatley catch it. Well hope I helped!!!!!

If you want creditability look it up for yor self. Fleas bit people dead or alive, fleas incubate plague, bit rats infect rats more fleas bit rat , get infected and bit people, people die. If you want sources do some work for you self. I just answer question, not research for some ones home work. Sorry old Capt.John Smith saying no money no work, or some thing like that. No you do not have to look that one up it was "no work no food"

Do your own research!!! Silly. You will remember the information better if you look things up yourself.
