Does anyone know a catalyst to speed up HCl dissolving cement?

I'm trying to use hydrochloric acid to eat away at some concrete and I was wondering if anyone knew of a catalyst that could speed the process up.... preferably something readily available.

Thanks in advance.

Update:

I'd also be grateful if you knew for sure if there is/isn't such a catalyst.

    There is no catalyst/other substance making a faster process. Only the concentration of acid.The higher the concentration the faster.

    To make this faster with a lower concentraion I would recommend additional physical attack, i.e. direct a strong stream of Dilute HCl on your concrete sample (pump and nozzle , tubing required). But make sure you do it safely - speak to your teacher before you do that - "spraying" acid may be dangerous.

    The HCl is working as the catalyst in this reaction to break down the cement. If you want something stronger (or that will work faster), you should try sulfuric acid. HCl is only 12M in its concentrated form, but sulfuric acid is 18M in its concentrated form.

    Another acid to consider might be nitric acid (15M), but it is so reactive that you may have unwanted/dangerous side reactions occur.

    In any case, be careful when working with any acid, but have fun discovering the effects of acids on cement.
