Yahoo Answers is shutting down on 4 May 2021 (Eastern Time) and the Yahoo Answers website is now in read-only mode. There will be no changes to other Yahoo properties or services, or your Yahoo account. You can find more information about the Yahoo Answers shutdown and how to download your data on this help page.

Options other than Yahoo Answers?

I see that Yahoo is shutting down Yahoo!answers at the beginning of May. For those of you who answer questions here, what are other options for asking and answering questions like this? I've actually enjoyed spending time here and helping people deal with Chemistry questions. Where else can I do something similar?

There probably won't be anywhere quite like this site again.

Somewhere to indulge yourself in undergraduate Chem and remind us of the great days when our knowledge was important and given away for free.

I will miss reading the excellent work of Roger , Pisgsah and hcbiochem and hope they find somewhere to pass on their considerable mastery to young chemists.

These people were always courteous to questioners and answerers alike but unfortunately others were not so and they will not be missed.

So its bye to Yahoo Chemistry.

reddit has subreddits like r/HomeworkHelp r/chemistryhomework

as well as r/yahooanswers and r/askreddit

also not sure what it takes, but you could look into answering for Brainly, Chegg, etc. for academic stuff.

good question.  I think those of us usual answerers here should start a new site.

The only one I know is Quora. However, they messed it up by telling people they can earn money from asking questions that get a lot of views. What this means is that in the technical sections you get a load of really stupid questions and a load of really lazy questions (What is a transistor etc.) by the same people.

In theory there is Reddit too but I have never understood how to use Reddit.

Sad to see YA shut down but it went the way of many things; It started out as great place with a small population of people asking genuine interesting questions and puzzles and slowly degenerated to Chinese tw@t-bots and hoards of teenagers wanting their homework done for them.

In the past, when this question has been asked, options such as Quora, Reddit, Answers.com, able2know.org and others have been mentioned (one can do a search for question and answer websites). Users seeking another Q&A forum will need to try out various ones to find what they like.
