Sei que no vocabulário de munição existe a palavra "festim" para cartuchos sem projétil, os que fazem barulho, mas não matam. Já ouvi falar essa paravra no contexto de teatro, mas queria saber se essa é a palavra usada também no contexto militar, ou se os militares têm outro nome para isso.

I cannot type into the text box of any flash-based chatrooms. I use Firefox 3.X and Adobe Flash player 10.X - just got the latest version for both. Yet, whenever I go to a website that has a flash-based chatroom, I see the cursor blink in the text box, I can paste text into it... but when I try to just type, nothing happens.

I cannot find any information on this problem on google either.

Can anyone help me? what could be wrong?

Quero saber em qual bairro de São Paulo (capital) posso encontrar mais boates, bares e casas de shows oferecendo hip hop, soul brasileiro, samba rock, etc.

Com certeza tem pouco disso em quase todo bairro, mas quero saber onde é que eu acho mais disso (ou onde ficam os melhores lugares).

Quem conhece capoeira sabe que ligado a esse esporte existe uma dança/teatro folclórico chamada puxada de rede. Eu sei que a peça é geralmente apresentada pelos capoeiristas e consigo achar na internet muitos ritmos de atabaque que são usados para acompanhar a peça. Mas não estou encontrando nenhuma informação sobre o uso de berimbau no mesmo ritual. Alguém sabe se berimbau é usado na puxada de rede?

I want to send a birthday present to my grandma. She doesn't live in the US (so it needs to be relatively small and legal to send by mail) and doesn't speak English (so it can't be a book or a cup with a cute writing, etc).

I just bought potted parsley, chive and spearmint plants at a farmers market, but forgot to ask about the best place to keep them. These days, the outdoor temperatures in my area are in the 70s during the day and in the 40s during the night. My apartment remains at stable 70F through day and night.

Which place would be better for my plants? A stable 70 indoors, or the 70/40 alternation outdoors? For now, I've left them outside, in a big box that I can cover at night. My concern is that if I bring them inside, the constant 70F will be a bit too much for them... but then again, 40F at night is also not the best temperature for any of those herbs.

I've tried to google, but haven't found very good answers. Anybody here have any advice?

I made some muffins two days ago and left them in a ziplock bag on my kitchen counter. Today I went to eat one and could taste that it wasn't ok anymore. I didn't eat it, of course... (ewww...). But I became sorta curious - what happens if one eats a moldy piece of bread?

I know bad meat or veggies can mess up one's digestion and even send a person to the hospital. But moldy bread? I can't imagine what else, besides horrible taste, would come of eating it...

(sorry for a gross question, for those with weaker nerves)

I know there are some Shoe Hospital locations in Austin, but those are all quite far from the UT/Downtown area. I don't have a car, so I need to find something that's a little closer.

Anybody know if there's a place near UT that will replace the rubber heel thingy on my shoes?

I'm sitting in a coffee shop connecting to wireless with my laptop. I'm connected to the coffee shop's secure wireless network, but scrolling down the list of available networks, I saw one ad hoc connection (WPA-2 personal) with a really interesting name (it's the name of a really rarely known foreign song). I am really curious to find out who is the owner/source of this signal.... Is there a way to figuring that out without yelling across the coffee shop???

Estou preparando uma palestra escolar sobre funk carioca, e sei que no público vou ter jovens menores de idades, pais deles, e administradores da escola. Não vou poder tocar qualquer música de funk como exemplo... Alguém aqui conhece alguma música de funk que seja apropriada pra tocar pros jovens que não costumam ouvir funk e os pais deles?

A palestra vai tratar do aspecto rítmico de funk e as orígens dos ritmos usados, então se conseguir achar um funk menos forte do que aqueles de sujeira mesmo, conseguiria talvéz até evitar o constrangimento que geralmente acompanhar esse assunto.

I bought some sliced ham in a supermarket (a few days ago) and just noticed that the label on the package says "sell by 11.12.2008". I figure that large supermarkets wouldn't really risk selling rotten food by setting a "sell by" date that is very close to the actual expiration date of the food item. So I'm wondering - if the "sell by" date was today, until when would it be fine for me to keep eating this ham? Is there some sort of a reasonable time window?

I remember when I was a kid, candles used to drip like crazy. As the wick burned, the candlewax melted and dripped down onto the plate. Now, every time I burn candles in my house, they just burn till the end and by the end there is nothing left. Where does all that candle material go? Is it all somehow evaporated and floating in the air? Is it getting deposited somewhere? (on my furniture, clothes, walls?).

I made a Supershuttle reservation online and got a confirmation email with a reservation number. But I don't have a printer at home.... Is it ok for me to just jot down the reservation number on a piece of paper and show it to the driver when he gets here, or do I have to find a printer and show the driver a printout of the entire confirmation email?

Any experiences with that?

Segundo as pesquisas na área de sociologia e antropologia, é sim. Desde as famosas pesquisas pelos pesquisadores da USP junto com a UNESCO nos anos 50s, a comunidade acadêmica tem articulado que no Brasil o racismo é tão forte e feio quanto nos EUA ou África do Sul.

Mas ao mesmo tempo, ainda existem caras que nem o Ali Kamel da TV Globo que alguns anos atrás publicou um livro chamado "Nós Não Somos Racistas" onde escreveu que no Brasil não tem raças distintas e por isso o problema não é de racismo.

Tanto aqui no YR quanto entre meus amigos tenho encontrado pessoas que sempre falam que no Brasil negros e brancos convivem em amizade, se casam e tem filhos e racismo de verdade é bem raro.

Mas... vendo que a maioria dos atores/atrizes nas novelas ainda não brancos, a maioria das rainhas de beleza são brancas ou de pele bem clara, a maioria das pessoas no governos municipais e federal são brancos, a maioria dos professores e alunos nas universidades não brancos, nos bairros chiques geralmente moram só os brancos, e na hora de entrar num prédio de condomínio um negro sempre tem que parar e avisar a quem vai visitar enquanto eu (pessoas branca) nunca fui barrada nem questionada, no carnaval baiano a massa dentro da "corda" sempre tem pele muito mais claro do que a massa fora da "corda", nos anúncios de emprego ainda pedem "boa aparência" querendo dizer "pele clara" e "cabelo liso"...

Um país onde negro só tem acesso ao poder se for atleta (Pelé) ou artista (Gilberto Gil) pode ser chamado de não-racista?

ps: essa pergunta não é para instigar uma briga. Estou sinceramente querendo entender porque tantas pessoas ainda falam que no Brasil não tem racismo...

I am trying to figure out what time the results will be coming out. We will probably be getting partial results all day, right? But I want to make sure I get out of work and camp out in front of my TV by the time all the booths across the US have closed.

I am going through a very demanding period in my professional and private life, and as a result I am suffering from a high level of stress. I took one of those stress tests online and scored almost the highest score possible (read: I have pretty much all the symptoms stress can produce).

When I researched online about some ways to cure stress, what I mostly found were suggestions to get rid of the stress-causing factors in my life. Well, that is not possible right now. I will just have to temporarily survive this high-tension period until things ease out. However, in the mean time, I cannot just let myself become a loonie-case.

So, what are the most efficient ways of temporarily dealing with a stress problem (other than getting rid of the cause of stress. I cannot simply quit my job, because we're going through a crazy time, and I do know that in a month or two things will slow down).
