Growing herbs (parsley, chive, mspearmint) indoors vs. outdoors?

I just bought potted parsley, chive and spearmint plants at a farmers market, but forgot to ask about the best place to keep them. These days, the outdoor temperatures in my area are in the 70s during the day and in the 40s during the night. My apartment remains at stable 70F through day and night.

Which place would be better for my plants? A stable 70 indoors, or the 70/40 alternation outdoors? For now, I've left them outside, in a big box that I can cover at night. My concern is that if I bring them inside, the constant 70F will be a bit too much for them... but then again, 40F at night is also not the best temperature for any of those herbs.

I've tried to google, but haven't found very good answers. Anybody here have any advice?

Thank you in advance! :)

Many herb plants have their origin in Mediterranean climates. Your parsley and chives and probably the spearmint will do very well in the environment you described with daytime highs in the 70's and night time lows in the 40's. Other herbs like rosemary, thyme, sage, marjoram. basil, and fennel will thrive during the heat of the summer. You may want to keep your herbs potted in easy to move containers to give you the convenience of carrying them indoors should frost threatens.

Nightime temps not too bad if in a protected area. Basil doesn't like it below 50 though. Bright sunlight is important no matter where you put them. You might try in at night out during the day until nite temps come up.

They should be fine outdoors as long as it doesn't go under 32 degrees. They'll do better in natural sunlight too but if you want to keep them indoors, pick a sunny window ledge.
