What exactly is a Cultural Marxist?

Update:

I see the Right throw around this term a lot, often in reference to immigration

I've seen the government BBC, police, councils and even private organisations called "cultural marxist" institutions??

It is a made up word used by those who cannot cope with the modern world and have no clue who Marx was and what he wrote. The idea is, roughly speaking, that Cultural Marxists are somehow trying to erode national identity by making us all the same somehow. What they seem to not realise, because they are stuck in 1953, is the world is getting smaller due to technological progress. We can travel to the other side of the world in a day. People can commute to cities like London from abroad, and often save money doing so. We all share the same WORLD wide web, we watch foreign TV, eat foreign food, listen to foreign music etc. Yet some idiots see it as some type of "cultural Marxist conspiracy" because we no longer all grow up near where we are born, travel, and bring home our influences. Any media outlet that dares reflect this happening and real life is "culturally Marxist." Anyone who has friends who are non white British, eats curry, listens to Bob Marely, is a "cultural Marxist" as they have broken away from their narrow idea of British culture.

Basically, if you are a "cultural Marxist" you are responsible for kebab shops, chicken Tikka Masala, cheap air travel, hip hop music, a Muslim lady being allowed to bake cakes and the World Wide Web, pretty impressive eh?

One who advocates the destruction of national identities by importing foreign and backwards filth. Our current government, for example.

It's a lazy term used by racists or other extreme right wing people who haven't an actual example or argument, it's used to try and win an argument.

SAaly, when asked they rarely can explain what they mean, let's hope they come on here and explain how, in one case the "BBC is Cultural marxist, ", especially considering the huge amount of hours they put towards the VJ day anniversary, when ITV did bugger all !

Good question! I remember that term being used by that right-wing terrorist nutcase that went on that shooting spree in Norway... I remember thinking "HUH?"

Cultural Marxism is an ideology which emphasizes culture as a main cause of inequalities. Critics have seen cultural Marxism and its influence as an important cause of political correctness and as an important cause of a perceived decline of humanities, social sciences, culture, and civilization in the Western world

The term "cultural Marxism" is most commonly encountered as a snarl word decrying everything right-wingers don't like, alluding to a conspiracy theory involving sinister left-wingers in the cultural and artistic spheres, including the media and academia, supposedly being engaged in a decades-long plot to undermine Western culture. With bonus anti-Semitism.

Outside of graduate seminars in the history of critical theory, the term is primarily used by reactionaries to red-bait anyone with progressive tendencies.
