Poem: There is a time to every purpose, right?

Plant a Seed

Mid-summer, when peaches are ripe

and heavy with tasty respite

Fruit stands pop up by the side of the road

Tended by kids off from school

country faces with family rules

Shrewd and savvy as car salesmen might bode

Thirteen for three dollars, a steal

a quarter a piece, still a deal

I paid five dollars for a basket load

On checkered cotton table cloth

I placed my basket by my troth

Guests at my picnic could eat á la mode

Fruits from a tree, fruits of labor

shared with loved ones who can savor

and appreciate happily, seeds sowed

I like that you are having a proper picnic complete with a checkered table cloth. I loved the imagery in this poem, and the fact that the kids selling the peaches were sharp when it came to money. (So you had to do some haggling? ) Heavy peaches, mouth watering. Great to sit down with friends, family and eat fruit on a hot summer day and sow the seeds of conversation and plans for the future. Pleased you shared this experience with us. A lovely poem Andy P.

I enjoyed the poem much and appreciate the work you put into

this piece, with the syllable count pattern, the way you negotiated

a well knitted rhyme scheme, and an inviting storyline. Kudos.

Oh, one more thing--I never knew what á la mode meant---now I

know..either 1. in the fashion or *2. ice cream on top

I think (><) that you mean a la carte

but poetic licence plus your thankfully reminding me that

I forgot to purchase peaches - and the store is still open,

and the pleasing visual images here,

    together

with your rhythmically neat rhyme - scheme

I always like eating from a troth.

Oh I meant a trough. Never mind.
