Stuff to do in the car on very long trips? Please help!?

Hi!

I'm 15, my brother is 12 and my sister is 7, and we're traveling to Karigini in a few days from perth, so we're going to be driving in the car a lot. I'm used to trips that last 4 hours, as I have family that live in the country, but not full day journeys, we'll be driving for 2 days straight.

So I was just wondering if anybody had any games/ ideas on what we can do while in the car, that would be great, keeping in mind out ages. Looking outside the window isn't much of an option because all we'll see is red dirt and dead trees for the most part!

We have some dvd players sorted out, but not much else.

Thanks to anyone who has a suggestion!

When i was a kid and used to go on long trips with my folks and my brothers we used to play trivia games. Someone, usually me, would write down questions on a small piece of paper and put all the questions into a bag. Then each of us would take turns to draw a question and try to answer it. If you answered it successfully you'd get a lolly.

Of course, tablets and mp3 players weren't around then but that little game used to keep our minds occupied for quite a few hours and usually provided plenty of laughs.

Ive done that drive a few times.......you will see a whole lot more than you think you will you know......its not nearly as barren as it looks in photos. The outback is teaming with wildlife and you get to see quite a lot of it, even through the windows of a car. Look out for wedge tailed eagles, red tailed black cockatoos, red kangeroos, emus.....those are amazing, particularly when they have chicks in tow....goats, there are tens of thousands of feral goats in the north west, you will see a lot of them and they may be feral, but theyre very cute.

For when youre not watching eagles flying overhead, look up some old style car games, the sort we used to play before the days of hand held games and dvd players. Dots is good and can keep you amused for quite a while with just paper and pens. Try to hold off on some of the electronic stuff and pace yourself with it, even the best gizmo can get boring when its all you have to do.

Most of all though, learn to love the landscape up there.

Take imagination with you, just make sh!t up out of what you see.

All the electronica gets just as boring and leads to 'are we there yet?'

Play all the 'I-Spy', number-plate, sign, signpost, distance marker games that you can. Then make up your own game.

    Could always read.

As a child, we travelled from NQ to Brisbane at least once a year, many times more. Much, much longer if we were visiting rellies along the way.

I usually travel up to half a day to Sydney and back to my city, so hopefully the suggestions (that I usually do) will help -

    - Bring an iPad - you can watch movies, surf the internet and play games. Download Temple Run and Angry Birds... they're quite addictive games.

    - Bring an mp3 player or ipod. You can listen to that for hours.

    - Bring books or magazines to read. I usually download comics to my iPad, which is an option too.

properly, you may attempt to get to understand the girls which you somewhat understand. in the event that they are on a team with you, then it would be powerful to strengthen some variety of bond. Ask them what they do, what they are interested in, stuff like that. as quickly as that wears off, in-automobile video games are continually good time-wasters, like 20 questions, actuality or dare, taking part in cards and the rest that comprises recommendations. in case you are the type, catching up on a good e book is large too. yet incredibly, twelve hours could properly be a protracted time, so which you'll be able to as properly merely take a snooze in case you do no longer prefer to be social!

We used to count white horses, play 'I spy', hand held games etc.You can get magnetic travel games such as draughts(checkers) Ludo & Chess etc as well. They are magnetised to prevent the pieces from falling off the board.Books to read is another good pastime for kids.Myself,I prefer looking at the scenery.

Tember, when we take the grand kids with us to PEI or to Niagara, they have tablets and play games, they also play I Spy, also they look at car tags and make up rhymes.

On one trip, they were counting cars the different makes, like how many Chevrolets, Fords, Nissan's, Toyota, Accura's etc. They also slept.

I listen to talking books in the car on long trips. I used to buy the CDs but now I download the books for my iPod which plugs into the car's sound system. There are books for every age. If you like listening to people reading to you, download some talking books.
