Prince of Thralls in Magic the Gathering?

I know a lot about magic, but this got me thinking. If I have Prince of Thralls out, and I countered a spell that would have been a permanent if it came in to play, does Thralls ability still trigger? It technically is a permanent, but the "controls" part has me wondering...

    200.6. A permanent is a card or token that's in play.

    Since you countered it while the card was on the stack, and not in play, it was never a permanent, so Prince of Thralls' ability doesn't trigger.

    If a creature spell does not resolf it does not come into play because it has been countered and is not a permanent. The thralls' ability does not ability. You only control a permanent after it comes into play.

    @Smaf:

    Say there are 3 players in multiplayer. A has a Sakura-Tribe Elder, B and C have a Prince of Thralls,and their turn order is A, B,C. If A sacrifices the Elder, then the abilities of B's thrall triggers, then the ability of C triggers. As the ability of C's thrall triggers 2nd, its on top of the stack, and resolves first. Player A has the chance to pay 3 life, if not, player c gains control of the Thrall, and if player A does, then he will have the option to pay 3 life again when player b's thrall ability resolves, and if not, player b gains control of the elder. However, if C already has control of the elder, player A can still pay 3 life for B's thrall only it has no effect as the game has lost track of the Elder when it switched zones from the Graveyard to C's control.

    I would say no, it's only a spell at the moment and not a permanent at the time when countered, and if i remember the card it says "when a creature leaves play and goes to the graveyard" and a countered spell was never in play

    What i really want to know is if u r playing a free4all and 2 of your opponents have prince out and one of your cards dies.....what happens and how do u deside who gets it( Can't remember if prince is a legendary or not though if he is then this question was just answered)

    no.

    until it is actually in play, it is not a permanent.
