does blue eyes in pets mean they are deaf?

my guinea pig has one blue eye and one brown. sometimes he doesn't appear to notice when i come to their hutch unless i make quite a bit of noise, but my other pig knows i'm coming from ages away. they are about three years old could the blue eye mean he is deaf in that ear? how could i check?

Update:

he is all white, with a light yellowish patch over his non-blue eye.

If he is deaf, it's coincidence.

Deafness linked to blue eyes only occurs in white or mostly white animals with 2 blue eyes.

    He's probably just very calm.

many pets with light blue eyes are deaf, but that does not mean all of them are. Commonly white cats with blue eyes are deaf and similar dogs.

It may not be completely deaf but hard of hearing. Which would mean if something was loud enough or the right tone it could hear it.

You could try tests like putting it in the bathtub, and distracting it with something like a carrot. Drop something loud and clangyish behind it maybe a marble or some keys. Guniea pigs are pretty skittish and if it doesn't react much you can be pretty sure its deaf.

I am not sure if vets do hearing tests, but i suppose it couldn't hurt to call and ask?

I have no idea if that is true or not but 2 of my dogs have solid white faces and blue eyes and neither have any problems hearing at all.

But again I do not know if that is a common link or not

not always. i have a white & orange siamese mix with blue eyes, and he can hear a can opening from across the house! wait until he is relaxed with you, maybe on your lap, and snap your fingers lightly near each ear and see his reaction. if he turns in the direction the noise is cominng from, he can most likely hear in that ear. maybe he just likes to "zone out". as always, if you are worried about your pet, take him to the vet.

No! Just think of Huskies and australian Shepherds! more commonly a solid white face = deafness
