What does it mean when you hear a whistling sound at night?
So across the street from my house is a forest, I live in a house near the Appalachian mountains. Last night as I was going to bed at around 3 am, I heard whistling sounds that went on for a straight 20 minutes. They were like long almost calming whistles and it also sounded really close and none of my neighbors go outside that late because there are bears. It sounded like a human but it was too fluent and there are no trains near me

What are some essential survival tips and items?
I've got the basics down like weapons, fire starter, tarps, etc. I want to know specific things no one thinks about that really come in handy.
Also tips on how to live outside, not just in survival situations.
Anything and everything is welcome! Thank you in advance!

Are hiking trails closed?
Favourite answer:That would depend on WHERE the trails you are asking about are.
Until you specify to at least a state/province/country, no one can answer you.

Do you hike during winter?
Favourite answer:Sometimes, yes.
It's been several years since I did any winter camping, but I do still occasionally go hiking on the weekends.
It helps that there are so many trails where I live.

Why don't skydivers wear helmets or seatbelts?
Favourite answer:There is no provision for helmets, USPA highly recommends head protection an even the soft padded hats are acceptable.
Our jump plane was a gutted out Cessna 182, no belts. In flight door.
Jumped many different planes, no recall of belts, just sit where you fit.
The spotter usually has the door
FAA requires pilots to have chutes and wear belts.
Look at some skydiving videos, you see how they are decked out.
Done a lot of jumps in blue jeans T-shirt sneakers and just cheap goggles and parachute.

What cleaning fluids for an AR-15 are essential?
Favourite answer:Too many think you have to use special fluids for AR`s but simple stuff around the house is good enough. I clean after every outing. The bore and chamber with Simichrome polish and Viva paper towels and sometimes WD-40 for stock lower trigger housing and blown out with air nozzle. I do reciprocating strokes for chamber and thru passes for bore cleaning entering from chamber end only with Viva paper towel strips tightly wrapped around bore brush(no wire). I get mirror finishes. 3 in 1 oil is very good for light lubrication and corrosion prevention. Petroleum jelly or clear grease for bolt carrier and housing has sufficient results. Some drop-in triggers require very little lubrication on contact (sear) surfaces but not over lubricated.
I`m not against special cleaning fluids...just never found them to do better than the things mentioned. I`ll put my AR against any for cleanliness or performance.
