Can a hotel charge me for reservation with just my mobile number?

Recently reserved hotel room through Expedia and instantly realised wrong location. Didnt needed my bank card details just put in my mobile number of United Kingdom. But its not letting me to cancel me and says i will be charged full.

    I've only booked hotel stays via Priceline before and I don't have a credit card on file with them. 

     I just select the dates, hotel, amenities, etc. and it takes you to a check out/confirmation page - at that time I enter in either my credit card or pay with PayPal, etc. 

    Do you have a credit card on file with Expedia?

    Does Expedia have your card on file for fast checkout? You may have guaranteed the booking with a card
