How do you prevent the king in CHESS from moving and win the game?

I'm new and wondering what's the rule to win? Is it to align your pieces to prevent the king from moving?

    If the King is under attack i.e. (Check) & cannot get free of the attack, that is a loss by Checkmate.

    Well, not quite. For example, the king can't move when you start your game. It's about killing the king. (which later on essentially means prevent the king from moving.)
