    I wouldn't call them "martyrs"

    because

they were executed for their criminal acts

and not for simply practicing their faith.

    On the other hand

Catholics of the time were ***not allowed*** to attend Catholic services

    and

were ***required*** to attend Anglican services every Sunday

on pain of fine and physical punishment.

    - BTW - Puritans also were required to attend Anglican services at this time, which is of course one of the major reasons for the Puritan colonization of the Americas

And: that was not the only anti-Catholic law in effect. For example: Catholics were not allowed to hold public office. Simply being a Catholic Priests on English soil was a capital offense. Etc.

So, though on the one hand they should NOT be deemed "martyrs"

    one certainly COULD

    **if** one wished

    perceive them as "freedom fighters"

who were fighting for the right to religious freedom

the right to worship as they wished

(which right they reasonably could ONLY expect to attain by forcibly removing the current monarch with the hopes that a Catholic monarch would take her place).

    Note that I'm not Catholic

and I think it was wrong to stoop to murder

    but

I can certainly commiserate with Catholics in that situation

unable to worship as they believed they were required by their religion to do.

They must have been truly desperate

to once again worship as they believed they ought to do.

Terrorists that wanted the vatican to rule the world.  Nothing has changed.  The vatican is still the world's biggest terrorist organization.  Catholic and orthodox are not Christian.  The first Christians are in Acts in the Bible, and they are obviously not catholic or orthodox.  Catholic and orthodox lead to hell because they add works to salvation.  So get away from catholic and orthodox completely, and instead, read the King James Bible, because it is 100% perfect.  Here is what you need to believe:  The Lord Jesus Christ is God, and He loves you.  Believing in the Lord Jesus Christ means being forgiven all sins past and future, and means going to heaven and not hell.  Death leads to immediate heaven or hell, and it is too late to be saved, after death.  All believers still sin.  See 1 John 1:8.  To be in heaven and not hell, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, who is God and who died on the cross and shed His blood to pay for all of our sins in full, and who was buried, and who resurrected from the dead.  The only way to avoid hell is by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, without adding any of your own works.  See Romans 4:5, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, and John 3:16.
