Why did we quit producing nuclear energy if it's clean energy that is abundant enough to power everything?!?

I doubt we'd be having what's going on in Texas if nuclear energy were still being produced

Update:

I don't get how they wouldn't like it. It can produce much, much more energy than fossil fuels and emits zero greenhouse gases.....and it doesn't fail to produce when it gets snowed on, like windmills or solar panels, or if there is no sun

Update 2:

Oikoc....the only reason the fossil fuel plants froze is because they stopped running them due to wanting to use more green energy, so they were disabled, and now it's too cold to get them running again. Nuclear energy is very clean and since they'd be running continuously they wouldn't have the problem of restarting them. Plus it doesn't stop producing when the snow gets on the solar panels, or there is no sun.

Unpdate 2 is a lie. Green energy does not freeze up if you winterize them.  They were warned last year. Management did nothing. Everything froze up because none of it was winterized.  I did not know that oil and gas had to be winterized, now I do.  Alaska ran without a blip every winter, so does Canada, & Europe & Russia...and Antarctica..

. Cold happens in Texas.  I watch cowboy movies and they is in the cold in Texas.

Only if you sprinkle toxic waste on your cornflakes.

Why?  U.S. adults who should know better let children with mush between their ears make decisions.  France has produced most of its power with small nuclear plants for decades.   There will soon be a huge conversion to nuclear. We will also need to restart all the coal fired plants.  The children are killing petroleum and want all vehicles to be electric.   That will demand 50 times more electricity than now exists.

3 Mile Island, Chernobyl and Fukushima kind of undermine that whole safe and clean argument you're trying to make. Then, just to literally pile it on, there's all of that nuclear waste storage problem that congress has been squabbling over for decades now. Hey! Let's keep it at your place.

    1) you have to store the waste for thousands of years. And it has to be in a secure place and it can’t leak out in the environment.

    2) no one wants a new nuclear power plant in their back yard.

    3) nuclear power plants have not modernized and are still pretty much made the same way as the first ones.

Other than that - yes they do produce a lot of power.

Meanwhile barrels of spent nuclear fuel sit only yards from lake michigan cause politicians squabble over what to do with it.

People say it's too expensive and too dangerous. *Certain people* are not willing to spend much money on efforts to save our environment... Guess that's not a priority to them. And people think it's too risky, a safety hazard, etc... Nuclear energy is very safe nowadays, this is a misconception.

Are the nuclear plants in TX still functional or did they freeze too? And since when is nuclear energy "clean"? Would you like the waste from them in YOUR backyard?
