Why are there so many “mommy shamers”?

So I’m pregnant with my first child and one of my friends asked me what kind of parent I can see myself being. Despite having imaginations growing up, I deep down don’t actually know but regardless, I fear the amount of disapproving comments I’ll get for what I do end up doing.

Examples...

“Why aren’t you going back to work?”

“Why aren’t you staying home?”

“Why can’t you take your kids with you on date nights?”

“Do you and your partner ever get a break? Why do you take them everywhere with you?”

“Why are you so strict?”

“Why are you so lenient?”

So why can’t people mind their own business?

Update:

Helene - NOBODY was talking about politics except for you. What exactly are you talking about? Also “grow some hide” doesn’t make it ok.

Good question. Unfortunately, you're correct that when you become a mom, you basically can't please anyone, *someone* will always have something negative to say and will blame you for things you have little to no control over. You just kinda have to learn to be confident in your decisions, and understand that not all parenting strategies work for all kids. Even kids within the same family can have totally different needs, and parents just have to walk the fine line of treating their kids equally while also providing them with what they need as individuals.

It's not just MOMMIES. You have to quit thinking you're part of a persecuted group.

Nobody minds their own business anymore. I saw this coming many years ago. The more taxpayer-funded services the government provides, the more people feel like everything IS their business.

This will not change until civilization collapses and re-organizes. It will only get worse. Better grow some hide.

Culture in the US has changed. I think social media has created a mindset where people feel free to criticize others openly as if they were the arbiters of right and wrong.
