What is the best monitor height ?

Hello there

im having a problem for quite a long time and i would like a good advice what to do or what you do

im pretty used to play on games on the computer and i quite dont know what is the best heiight to put the monitor

in most of the internet ergonomic sites they say that the top of the monitor should be at eye level , and i quite dont get if this really should be don because if the screen is big and you are most of the time bending down to look at the middle - bottom of the screen it causes your neck to be bended down and probably a hunchback

and if you raise the screen with books below it that the middle - bottom of the monitor at eye level so its comfterable to look the the computer monitor and not a pain to use the computer [and to not get an eldery mans neck] there is this problem that will accoure [and try it] at least when i use it that the upper back and neck leans to the side of the hand you are using

so lets say you use only your right hand on the mouse and the monitor is kind of high so you dont need to bend down to look at it the body leans to the side of the hand that you are using the most [at least thats what i feel when playing FPS games]

sorry if this sounds a little wiered just for a long time i wanted to know if anybody can give a good advice how to place the computer because ive tried puting books below it and ive got this wiered leaning to the right feeling when using the monitor high and the top screen at eye level makes me bend uncomfterably

minimum 51 cm in monitor height

Position the monitor at least 20 inches (51 cm) from your eyes—about an arm's length distance. If your screen is larger, add more viewing distance.

Most recommend heights will hold true if you have good posture. Now with gamers who stay in front of their screens for hours will tire and do all sorts of zendified positions on their very expensive gaming chairs wherein those recommended monitor heights no longer apply. Attach the monitor on a swivel that's easy to maneuver from your reach so that you can change the height, angle and position anytime you feel like doing so to make your gaming experience more comfortable. To each his own!

some people have neck issues [i do -- osteoarthritis] and thus the 'best' answer varies depending on what your body likes best

okay, first, let me just say that you need to work on your spelling. there are misspelled words, and words i'm not sure what you meant, but you got ergonomic right at least!

secondly, bending your neck so your chin goes down a few inches does NOT make you into a "hunchback", nor does it give you an "old man's back". that is an old wives' tale. the neck bends for a reason. just don't do anything too crazy, and you will be fine.

thirdly, it is important to not sit TOO close to a large screen monitor. you didn't mention its size, but the way you spoke made it sound like a larger screen. generally speaking, whatever size the monitor is (diagonally), be sure you are sitting that many inches away. for anything over 28", sit twice as far away while using it. this will protect both your eyes, and your neck, from undue strain.

finally, it is important that the surface you use your mouse on is level  with your elbow, so that you don't need to lean down or reach up to use the mouse. this can be accomplished in many ways, but most commonly, a combination of the following is used:

    1. adjustable height office chair

    2. adjusting the angle of your arm, to make up the difference.

    3. you may also find getting a different height desk useful. many people will just use whatever surface is handy, but keeping your elbows level with each other while mousing can safe you later in life.

just remember to stop once every hour or so for stretching your body! stagnation can set in even if you have proper posture ;)

It depends on YOUR height. Monitors should be located so the user has to neither look up nor down.
