Honest opinions on child support?

Are you for it or against it if you could provide for the child but the dad doesn’t do anything to help or see the child?? I feel like it’s not fair just because the mom can care for the child that the dad shouldn’t be on child support because it takes two to bring a life in this world. What are your thoughts

Child support is for mothers/fathers who refuse to support their children.

The only part that sucks is many times the parent being put on child support is supporting the child but the other parent still can put them on child support for whatever reason. There should be a way to look into that because that's when its not fair.

If parents don't support the children they create, you know who has to? Taxpayers. And taxpayers should not have to shoulder the burden of providing for children when there are able-bodied parents capable of doing so, regardless of their relationship with each other or their child(ren). So yeah, having to pay child support does suck for the parent who didn't want the responsibility, but until a child is old enough to provide for themselves they have no choice but to rely on adults. A child's needs > a parent's wants.

Often in my experience seeing custody cases pan out.

If you can receive any financial support from the father that's the best course of action.

For one reason or another visitation and having dad take the child is not a good idea for the safety of the child.

Although is might seem more fair to you that a absent father pay and care for baby, giving time, attention, etc...but in the real world thats not practical and inly a small amount of fathers.

Ive heard many horrid stories when mom's had to release kids to dad for visiting all to go to a bug ridden, rat trap house with a mean gf.

Its simply better to wait find a good man that will be responsible in the long run.

If i were a girl with a dead beat dad, id move out of state and start a new life, i wouldn't want anything from him, but id want to move on.

Child Support and Visitation/ Custody are two totally different unrelated issues.

YES, fathers and mothers should financially support their children - always!

It doesn't matter what you think because THE LAW (in the United States, for example) says that biological parents must provide financially for their own children.  There are ways to avoid it, like sign off all parental rights.  And anyone who does that is a totalAsshole and doesn't deserve contact or interaction with their child.

Until the laws are changed BOTH PARENTS are responsible for the support of the child.  My opinions are irrelevant.

If you don't want child support, don't ask for child support.  You ARE aware that in some States the custodial parent can request support back to the date of the child's birth, the date the Petition was filed, the date the Petition was granted.  In theory, the custodial parent could go to Court today and request retroactive support for a child born 10 years ago.

Oh, and Moms pay support, too.

Both parents are obligated to care for the child that they both create but SOLELY paying child support isn't a excuse for a parent to be a deadbeat and to not be involved in their child's life.

I think the system needs some alterations, like ensuring that the father is the biological father and also ensuring that the woman didn't lure him into getting her pregnant for the extra money. But I do agree with with idea of child support. I believe that the father and the mother should always care for their children both financially and emotionally, but you can't force people into doing that. Often times, the man ends up with no responsibility because he can leave at his own will, and they sometimes do when they find out that their girlfriend is pregnant. Child support doesn't let them get away with abandoning the family that he is equally responsible for. It's too much to expect a single mother to financially support herself and her baby, so it's not unreasonable to expect the father to pitch in too.

It is not really up for debate.  Legally the non-custodial parent is still responsible for supporting the child.
