Why do they keep referring to the stimulus payments as "checks"?

I don't think anyone, including me, has written a check in years.  The government doesn't send out checks.  Even rebates and refunds are now in the form of prepaid debit/credit cards or electronic payments.  Why do people keep calling these payments "checks"!?!?  NO ONE is going to get a CHECK.

Lots of people get paper stimulus checks.

I received 3 rebate checks (physical checks) in the past month.

I've received multiple government paper checks in the past year - overpaid property tax refund, farm aid, etc

Even when I turn in cans at the recycling center, I receive a paper check.

"I don't think anyone, including me, has written a check in years."

    Then you're an idiot.

"NO ONE is going to get a CHECK."

    Wrong.

Why you all butt hurt about it? Many people are receiving checks because they have not ever filed electronically. Just because you don't doesn't mean that everyone else does what you do.
