Is Puerto Vallarta safe?

My boyfriend and I are planning on visiting Puerto Vallarta over winter break. I am a 19-year-old female and he's a 20-year-old male. I have read from some Reddit pages that it is a relatively safe place but the pages are a little bit outdated. So I came on here to ask...how safe is Puerto Vallarta? Is there anything we should prepare ourselves for?

Yes, it is safe. My wife and I will be there for 2 weeks in 9 days. We've been there many times.

My wife and I used to vacation each year at Nuevo Vallarta, just a little north of Puerto Vallarta. We used a family timeshare at a resort there. Made many bus rides to the city to explore and check out the different restaurants, and never had any problems. Some of the things to be careful with is the theft that is quit prevalent there, such as pick pockets. Never leave anything unattended, such as cameras or purse. It will be gone by the time you return to pick it up. Stay away from the bars and night clubs at night. If you are going to stay at a resort, they provide some great nightly entertainment. Timeshare sharks are all over the place, from the airport to the resorts, and some of the stores outside of the resorts. When they start in with the free gifts, and discount tours, you know they are with the timeshare sharks. It's not worth ruining a day to go to one of the seminars on timeshares. At the airport, they will approach you with all sorts of discounts and gifts to attend these things. One of their tricks is to ask for your transport paper work so they can help you find your ride. Never give it to anyone inside of the airport. Wait until you are outside where the passenger pick up is. Like anywhere you go, always be aware of your surroundings.

NO PLACE is 100% crime free.

TRY USING   some common sense like do not wander around staggering drunk.

MOST have uneventful vacation as far as crime is concerned.

    Crime does happen.

Petty theft and pick pockets are in any resort/holiday place.

    LEAVE THE BLING at home.

I've been there twice. Even rode the buses into town. I've never had any issues.
