Is anybody watching 'Black & British - a Forgotten History' on BBC2?

Well, I saw the actual book (by David Olusoga) on sale in the War Museum a couple of years ago, and thought it would be good for boring times at airports!

In the end, it was a really fascinating read, especially in the UK’s current climate of isolationism and in the wake of the Windrush scandal. So much I don’t know about this topic and so much which explains what our national identity is built on. And admit it - did any of the other answerers learn such history at school? I know I didn't, and with every chapter I read, it was clear why not.

I actually reading it on and off for six months, discovering white people, who WERE relatives of 17th century slaves brought from either America or Africa...who's relatives in England thereafter had become either musicians, writers or even of a medical practise.

I know there are the most mature of us showing their 'disgust', but if I was at school (12 years ago), I'd be amazed, amused. But also sad.

Like it or not - people are being written back into history.

Well...I enjoyed the programme and found it really interesting. There are still white people - especially on sites like this, who think that the first black faces on these islands arrived on the Windrush (and who do nothing but steal, rob and stab) and I think it's important to point out that this isn't true, and that many of us may have unrecognised black ancestry - as I suspect my own family does...even though I'm snowflake white. I was reminded of that Channel 4 programme a few years ago, which tested people's DNA for clues to their origins. Particularly memorable was the virulent racist ('I'm pure British!') who turned out to be very far from pure...and with a sprinkling of Marrakesh in his soul.

No, it will be rubbish claiming that ancient Britons were black, just as the Egyptians supposedly were.

No, that sort of right on garbage is typical of the BBC.

No, I'm not interested in BBC propaganda.

I would guess it's nonsense telling us how blacks really built Britain or/and stories about how nasty white people were to black people.
