1098-T form for tax return.?
I am filling in my 1098-T form on my tax return. Last year, I had online classes and my laptop broke, so I purchased a $300 laptop. I also purchased 5 of my necessary textbooks from Amazon, and 3 from a friend. I do not have physical receipts for any of these materials. For the laptop, I have the transaction on my credit card statement (back in January), and for the books I purchased on Amazon, I have the transaction both on my credit card statement and on my Amazon account. Do I need to print off this information and attach it to my tax return? Also, what do I do for the books I purchased from my friend? Do I get a signed note from her? Thank you.

You don't attach any of that to a tax return. You need to keep the receipts with your records. Only so much (max $4000 tuition and books) counts toward the credit anyway. The cost of the books from your friend may be irrelevant. A note would be insufficient. You would need a note and a cancelled check. You don't mention your age or if you're a full time or part time student or if someone else claims you as a dependent. These facts have a bearing on the credit.

You don't sent in the receipts unless you're asked for them. But save the Amazon order info, and have your friend write you a receipt for the ones you bought, showing title and author, amount you paid for each, and name of the class they were for. The laptop is not an eligible expense for an education credit.

No receipts, no deductions. The laptop doesn't count anyway unless the school requires it.
The books from your friend forget about. A note doesn't do anything.
