Type of vehicle required for DOT driving exam.?

I am already a commercial driver, however a friend is getting her commercial as well, training on a rental truck. When she goes to take her exam, must she be in a passenger bus to use for the test, or any class B vehicle, as when i took the test, i was on a bus, only due to it being the only thing available. As well, must the specific vehicle have a GWVR over 26001 or be of a type similar, as many rental trucks have their weight limited to 26000 even, to not require a class B, even having air brakes.

When you do the road test for a CDL you MUST drive the type of vehicle that you are seeking a license for. If you want a CDL-B, that means you must test in a truck that has a GVWR over 26,000 pounds OR a bus with more than 16 passenger seats. Air brakes are not REQUIRED for CDL-B. If you want to drive a truck with air brakes, that needs a separate endorsement. (Air brakes are included in CDL-A.)

Since ALL rental trucks like the ones from U-Haul or Ryder or Budget are less than 26,000 pounds, they are NOT appropriate for CDL testing.
