In a communist society there would be no private property, and therefore neither greed nor self interest. In such a society, people would be motivated to work not for their own good but for the public good.

liberals don't believe that. In a true communist society that would be correct but humans have not reached that level humans are too stupid and greedy and materialistic for true communism to work.

You have a rather naive, 4th grade education level of understanding of communism.
Greed and self interests are common and strong human traits. The mere type of government being practiced does not eliminate either.
