Pickup truck with manual transmission?

I am looking to buy a pickup truck, with a Diesel engine as a MUST HAVE, not the problem, the problem i come across is that not a single truck comes with a manual transmission (sans the Toyota dohicky and some other non-american contraption). Am i just looking in the wrong places? (i also am waist deep in manuals, brochures and flyers)

My truck is one o' them TOY-oh-ter dohickies with a gas engine (Tacoma, 2007, XRunner model). Xrunners only came with manuals, not sure this is still the case. My needs are likely different than yours.

Manuals are on the way out, across all models, much to my personal chagrin. Going the way of the buggy whip and United States Postal Service, looks-like. Last I heard, 20 years ago, manuals on larger diesels were the only way to go for trucks used for snow plowing. If nothing current is available, may need to go used.

That depends how old of a truck you are looking at.

If you want anything of recent vintage, forget it. Who wants to pull a big load with a manual trans? As much as my friend like rowing gears on occasion, he don't want to pull a bus with a manual trans F250.

Anyway, manual is pretty much out and may have to be factory order these days. It doesn't make financial sense to make manual trans and certify for emissions via the EPA when autos in those diesel trucks are very good now and at least 99.44% of the driving population can do just fine with an auto trans.

Well,"you know by the above answers" also remember this. Top luxury/sport auto manufactures, Mercedes/ Viper/ Corvette is behind synthetic oil. So you know a lot of research from the engineering teams has placed the seal of approval on this oil. I have a 4cyl. auto and it has 300,000 and does not use oil, and performs excellent! It is also a five speed transmission. I have used Mobile 1 "fully synthetic" from around 80,000 miles that is when I changed . Its worth the converting over if your one who is on top of quality maintenance and performance. Once the change is made stick to it,do not mix or switch back! Also most dragsters and rail jobs do not cut corners when it comes to the blood flow (oil) of a engine. Most rails will run a quarter mile without any engine coolant or water flow to subtract weight factor and gain speed. But you ask any of them on the professional circuit "what oil do they use"? Mobile 1 synthetic none other!
