Are all atheists like this?

or does Y!A attract the bad ones only? In here atheists are disrespectful, rude, insulting and pretty much give all atheists a bad name. The atheists here also as a rule think that theists are stupid and intellectually stunted. Surely you can debate and disagree without showing really poor character?

Update:

I used to visit forums and have discussions with other atheists and most of them are still respectful. I'm yet to see one athiest on here be respectful.

Update 2:

@Archer. I've read many questions on here and I have to disagree with you. There are some nice theists around here. I've seen many theists who show respect but not ONE atheist who show respect.

Update 3:

@Taylor. I'm an anti-theist and I try to avoid posting rude or insulting comments.

There are plenty of decent atheists on this site. Don't judge us all by how Julia or Desiree behave

I never make personal insults. If you feel it's disrespectful to say that Christianity is silly then I'm sorry, but that's what I believe. Christians think I'm a sinner and going to hell, but I don't hold it against them

Your words set in a different context, how does it sound to you?

So is this not a show of poor character?

Are all white people like this?

    Are all Christians like this?

    Are all liberals like this?

Do you know what a bigot is? How about a person who stereotypes those they seek to demonize?

Under what circumstances would you be proud to ask a question about "all" people of a particular kind? Isn't it really poor character to stereotype? It is in my book.

Many fundamentalists post here about evolution. Evolution is not seriously debatable. It is a trivial matter to demonstrate its reality. Many from both camps confuse The Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection with an answer to the origins of life and the origins of Man, neither event is documented in the fossil record and hence neither of which can be established to be a historical fact.

Atheists by definition hold a belief. As do theists. People who hold strong beliefs tend to be intolerant of challenges to that belief. Unfortunately people attack atheists assuming their perspective is scientific and people attack theists assuming their perspective is counter-factual.

These attacks happen frequently here. I am not sure what benefit a well informed atheist OR a well informed theist could gain from any debate in this forum. I haven't seen an original argument here ever. And I seldom see correct ones (imho). But perhaps I am overly generalizing, speaking of stereotypes. But I do not haunt this forum, I only get sucked in when I see a recent question on the home screen.

After spending however many years that I have on R&S, I could say the same about theists. There are some people (that may be deist, theist, agnostic or atheist) that try to stay courteous, but even in them we see outbursts.

Then too, if you have communicated as long as I have through electronic means, you realize that many people take things as being "rude" or make baseless assumptions about what others think, simply because there is very little to go on when reading a very few sentences. Also there is the anonymous factor that allows people to be a bit more frank or to "poe" each other.

The point is, if you live in a glass house, be very careful about what forums you participate in, as the likelihood is that people will throw stones at you whether they mean to or not.

Disagreement is not the same as disrespect - however, if you think about it, why should respect be shown for beliefs which cannot be shown to have any justification? A persons right to hold whatever belief they want should be respected, the belief itself deserves no such respect - unless it is backed up with good reasons to hold the belief.

As for rudeness, that comes from theists just as much as it does from atheists, and both can come up with stupid arguments in a debate.

It's not just atheists, it's also christians who engage in the debate. Christians do have a choice to ignore those or answer it.

Basically, people of all varied beliefs ask questions in the religious channel directed at America's most popular religion, as this is an American website, asking for clarification and evidence of biblical claims.

When non is given, why expect people to believe these things? Why would I spend my time and future following a faith for a retirement plan (heaven) that will never come to fruition?

You test a Christian as well as an atheist, the same way you will get a similar response. You tell an atheist that their best friend betrays them... and you tell a christian that their god betrays them...

what do you get? Essentially, the same reaction.

You suggest that many atheist are rude, do you want to know how many times I have heard the words from the pointy hatted church chiefs telling us all when we were young of going to hell and brimstone and fire and the devil. They do not say this now as they know no one believes this S h i t so the cut it from the text of their biblical speech. My uncle was told when he was first married to stop digging his garden because it was a day of the sabith.who cared if his family starved, the pointy headed religious ones no, they did not really care if they starved, as long as you bow to these depressing mythologicical believing priests, all is OK. I am 63, well it is all not O K, as no one can feed millions with a 6 loaves and 6 fishes as the bible tells us ( excuse me if the small numbers of loaves and fishes are wrong, but it does not matter, as it is all just mythology, or should I say brain washing ) but would we ll like to be a priest or minister of the church, what an easy job, no dirty hands their just critisize the poor and thrash the curse of hell to them, as they hide behind the drapes with as they kiddy fiddle the young boys. But at least they left the girls alone we can be thankful of that, which is not really much of a conctionrt is. It but we will have to take it as those priests will not give up their staunch tradition of fiddling. So to say you get rude remarks, no I do not think so, as no atheist has done any of this. s h i t. even Hitler was a paid up member of the cathlpolic church until he blew his brains out.

Many of the theists on here are just as disrespectful. As a rule the theists on here have a habit of presenting fundamentally flawed arguments and refuse to acknowledge simple logic. It's frustrating.

The surprising thing is that many theists here are disrespectful, rude, insulting and pretty much give their God (who is suppose to be all-loving) a bad name.
