I spent a couple of days in each. I preferred Marrakesh because it has that famous plaza and the medina is more delightfully confusing to get lost it, but my companion preferred Fez. You really can't go wrong with either, so go to whichever gives you more time.

The advantage of Fez is that you could arrange to stop in Meknes on the way back and visit Volubilis, the abandoned Roman city. The advantage of Marrakesh is that it's closer to the Atlas Mountains, I think.

The both cities are beautiful and interesting but considering your time frame I would recommend Marrakesh and I assure you that you won't get bored there. It's 7 hours ride train between Fez and Marrakesh. Yeah you could fly into Marrakesh and fly out from Fez

Marrakesh is just a town that sums up all of Morocco's unique North African allure, see it with hotelbye . The city's name offered the root for the title of the country itself, punctuation out this town's importance down the ages. Within the hustle of the town primary you will discover previous and new clashing and blending, which could make some tourists very nearly dizzy. Snake charmers and smooth shop touts both contend for the interest amid a noisy, vivid bustle that encapsulates Morocco's vibrant soul. For all visitors, Marrakesh's labyrinth Medina (Old City) area may be the town's star attraction. The slim alleyways certainly are a kaleidoscope of colors, smells and sounds. Is bound to be the sightseeing spotlight of one's journey; in addition to the just wandering is supposed to bustling maze.

I recommend you to visit Fez. After you're done visiting you can go to Ifrane, Azrou and many other lovely small towns located in the Middle Atlas mountains. But Marrakesh is also worth it although there are too many tourists and agitation there in my opinion.

I would choose Fes and Meknes. They are 60 kls apart, both very different and beautiful.

If you are interested in culture, craft, architecture, souks, ancient medinas, then these cities are for you. Fes has an 8th century medina and an 11th century one. The first university in the world was donated there by a woman in the 8th century, before either Oxford or Cambridge.Just wander the lanes, mind the donkeys, slink into a cooling courtyard and discover fountains set in blue Fes tiles.

. Visit the dye pots, the weaving souk where beautiful materials are created before your eyes.

Meknes has its wonderful gates, its dungeons, its huge souks, its carpets, the tomb of Moulay Ismail, the house of Jamil museum, its silver craft, its wide boulevardes in the New Quarter, excellent coffee shops and brillant pastries. It is a university city, friendly and non hassle

Marrakech is full of hype and really a rip off for the tourist. While the square still has some atmosphere at night, I would avoid it if you want to see the real Morocco.

Really depends where you are landing. I would spend in Marrakech also to visit nearby Essaouira and Ourika Valley. 4 days in Fez would offer you condensed tour of that beautiful city whereas in Marrakech many nearby surrounding features equaly as beautiful.
