information on Australian senior citizens/pensioners?

hi there.

i'm doing a business administration course and I need to do some research.

i need to rewrite this persuasive writing letter from my textbook, using supporting evidence and facts. it need to be a letter not full of opinions, but rather factual information.

i have no idea on how to start, let alone compose this letter, so i was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on how to rewrite this letter?

thanks for reading,

"In my opinion, all the 'oldies' in Australia are doing it tough. They aren't able to keep a roof over their heads or even get enough food to eat. They can't afford to buy vital medicines to keep themselves alive; it's too expensive. They can't even go to hospital; there aren't enough beds available for old people. Old people are just dumped on trolleys in the corridors to wait - and die. Ad all because the government won't give them enough pension. They've worked hard all their lives and what do they get for it - nothing! I believe these people are the 'salt of the earth' but no one seems to care. They government certainly doesn't care or they wouldn't be starving to death!"

Update:

Thank you both for your answers, you've given me something to work on :-)

I agree with the first answer.

    Do more research.

There are a few pensioners doing it tough because of life's circumstances, and making poor decisions in their past( eg:smoking), but as an Australian pensioner I see so many others at the theatre, in the supermarket, at probus clubs, and singing groups, and travelling, and it seems we are mostly doing quite well. We pay a special rate at the pharmacy for our prescription medication, and get discounts everywhere.

Those few who see themselves as victims, will be victims.

We ARE living longer and stronger, and we ARE going to find it tough to get a place in a nursing home at the end. We are the Baby Boomers.... that population rise that came after the war.

Governments worldwide are facing the same issue.

I get home help, as can any pensioner whose Doctor thinks they need it; The same programme gets me help with the garden, the windows, even changing a tap washer if I need it. This programme is to help me stay in my home (rented or not), and so relieve the pressure on nursing homes. And then, being on their files, they assess you regularly, and if you cant be safe at home any more they help find you a place.

It is NOT all roses, but certainly NOT what you heve written.
