Audi A3 Acceleration Lag?

ca. '12 A3 with 2.0L Diesel, 6 speed S-Tronic Transmission. When starting from a stop onto a highway or other quick need for power, i quickly push the accelerator, but there is a small lag between the command and the car actually accelerating. On similar note, going up hills at reduced speed, the engine seems 'luggy' and does not seem to have the vast power that it does on the highway...any insight or advice?

Update:

Automatic Transmission and slightly below average knowledge of automobiles

the 6 speed S-tronic is like driving a sewing machine it never seems to be in the right gear but it is designed for economy not sport, the engine needs ot be above 2000 rpm for good turbo boost

That small lag that you notice is your transmission downshifting to a lower gear so you can accelerate. A car's engine reaches peak power at a certain RPM. If you are not in that power band your transmission will upshift or downshift accordingly. When you are going up a hill, that "luggy" feel is actually you lugging the engine. My advice would to be start your hill climbs at higher RPM or anticipate when you will need the power and accelerate before. If your car has a "manual mode", which allows you to down shift and up shift by yourself, have someone teach you how to use it and it would help.

It could be a mix of the transmission and engine lag. So, i recommend you to take up an inspection your Audi A3 with an automotive expert. To know about Audi A3 parts, refer this link: http://www.carpartswarehouse.com/carmodels/CP14/Au...

It's turbo lag. When you step on the gas, it needs time to get the turbo spool up to produce the power, hence the lag. When you are already on the move there's no lag because the turbo is already spooling.

Maybe the fuel pump is not working properly and is not providing necessary fuel to the motor when you step on it?
