Ferret book recommendations?

I usually have a healthy supply of books on my chosen pets, but I have only just gotten into ferrets.

I have just ordered 'Ferrets for Dummies' over the internet- I think that it will have a good amount of info in it but are there any other ferret owners out there who can recommend any good, informative books on keeping ferrets as pets?

Thanks :)

That's really about the only one out there that's got correct info. There's LOTS of books out there that are written by people that don't have a CLUE about ferrets. AVOID!

If you want some super cute ferret-related books to read, though, check out the Ferret Chronicles books by Richard Bach.

Source(s): I've had ferrets for over 15 years, serve on the board of a ferret shelter, run an online ferret forum, a popular ferret Facebook group, write ferret articles for an online newspaper and my website's been featured in and I've been interviewed by Ferrets Magazine a few times.
  • Every time I pick up any book on ferrets I end up shaking my head in disbelief and sometimes even in disgust. I really don't think any one of them has sufficient or fabulous information. I found myself repeatedly hitting my head against a brick wall with them when I was new to ferrenthood, things just didn't add up or I would look for something and it wasn't there, or they would tell you a little bit about something but never really get to the point. Like diets, a lot talk about how diets are controversial but never talk about why, or even equip you with the tools to figure out "why" on your own. Same with illnesses, they talk about what the illness is and in a lot of cases they discuss illness that *can* be treated by surgery like surgery is the *only* way to treat them- even though a majority of the time it isn't. I think they are a waste of money, they are misleading and most of it is written by people who have never even had a ferret of their own.

If you are really looking to learn all you can about ferrets, I recommend you start with articles (online) by Bob Church or DVM Susan Brown.

Also in my research I stumbled upon the Holistic Ferret Forum, the people there are great- they have a lot of experience and they are eager to help others learn about our treasured little darlings. I have found that forum to be invaluable and irreplaceable.
