Why have a Cigar Box?

So I bought a cigar box from a yard sale a few weeks back because I recently began smoking cigars. When I went out and bought some cigars, the guy at the store put them in a ziplock bag and said they should last a week in there. After doing research online, I read you should preserve cigars in a humidor so they last. Is there any real purpose for the cigar box then? I mean, if I kept them in the box for a week instead of the ziplock bag, they'd most likely dry out, right? (the temp in my closet is around 70 but humidity is nowhere close to what it needs).

I am just trying to figure out if the box was even worth getting. It smells like a cedar wooden box, large enough to fit maybe 8 cigars. It's held closed by a small latch, and it's 95% sealed around the whole thing (there is a miniscule gap at one corner). It also has on the inside strips of wood that go around all the sides. The strips are a little taller than the actual outside of the box, probably to keep it more sealed.

Cigar boxes are used for packing. If you want to have your cigars preserved, you need to get a humidor. Cigar boxes do not have humidifiers to keep it from drying out.

In order to properly store cigars, you need to get a cigar humidor, not a 'box'.

A humidor is usually lined with Spanish cedar and closes hermetically. It is very important that you respect constant humidity (70-75%) and temperature (~70 degrees). A hygrometer and some distilled water will help you achieve that. A small humidor for 20-30 cigars with a starting kit will cost you around $30, so it's definitely affordable.

A humidor is how you should store your cigars. Personally, I just buy a few at a time and don't bother keeping a home humidor. As you can see from the attached link, inexpensive humidors are affordable

Cigar boxes are for the shipping of cigars, not for storage.
