Should the Australian Senate be Politically free?

It used to be at point of formation.

    I personally believe it should be.

    At least senators should have to sit in their states. That is each state should have seats allocated together, irrespective of parties.

    Also I believe senators should have to show how their support or opposition to legislation is based on what is best for their state (or Australia as a whole).

    There should be no towing the party line in the senate (or any upper houses in Australian states).

    The senate is suppose to be representative of their state and not that of their party. Remember each state is represented equally in the state.
