My Guppies are pregnant. How will I know when they are ready?

Apart from the obvious, when the fry are born. Is there a way to tell when close? They have the black spots where the fry are. What signs should I look for? want them born in a fry net not in the big tank.

Thanks in advance.

Well it is diffult to know exactly when, as it can be anything from 28 days to 6 weeks! On average it is roughly a month until the fry are released. The gravid area will get darker and bigger as the eggs inside develop into fry, you see the black dots? That's the fry's eyes. The pregnant female guppy will really start to bulge and will be round but big for a while, then when it is closer the round shape will square off - it's hard to explain this exactly until you have seen it yourself, but once you have seen this you will always know it will be soon. Another thing that can give it away is by her behaviour, if she starts to hide behind the heater etc and stop eating then it will be soon. If this is the first time she has given birth there propably wont be many, for example a guppy I had gave birth for the first time, 3 babies survived and 5 were dead (didnt look like they had been eaten, more like born dead). The best food for guppy fry is baby brine shrimp and powerderd flake food (put it in a sandwich bag or another small bag and crunch it up to a fine dust). Guppy fry should be fed multiple times a day to ensure proper growth and colouration. It is important that you get some brine shrimp eggs as this makes them strong. Look it up, my fry love eating the newly hatched brine shrimp.

If their gravid spot is dark they are within a few days. It is not good to move her when she gets very close ad you may injure her. Fry nets are not always good because I have seen other fish suck them through the net, It is best to move her about 21 days after her last drop of fry. That gives you about a week to condition her separately. It is also best to have a separate tank for her. After she has dropped the fry move her to a third tank for a couple of days before returning her to the main tank.

I raised guppies some years in the past. the female is going to consume her own youthful in case you do no longer place somewhat some seaweed interior the tank for them to cover in. while she is thru giving beginning you're able to be able to desire to chop up them from the different grown fish or there will be no little ones left. you additionally can get greater preparation by utilising occurring your interior of sight petshop (the place you additionally can locate the seaweed you will want) and the owner there will be very effective with greater advantageous preparation for you. it is likewise a robust thank you to get somewhat some as much as this point information. to inform your type approximately, too.
