Scales don't grow back, right?

Last month my garter snake shed and one of her scales came off on her back. It's healed fine but the scale never grew back. Will it grow back or will it be gone forever?

It will grow back, but may take some time. Lost scales regrow very, VERY slowly. For instance, my Blue Tongued Skink got bit -hard- on the nose by a large mouse a long time ago and his scales are just now finished healing. This was four years ago.

Depending on the size of the missing area, it may take a couple more months (or maybe another shedding) to start growing back.
