Gaining Control of a Creature in Magic: The Gathering?

I know a lot about Magic. I've been playing for years. It hasn't come up until now though that I did not know how this would work out.

1. If I gain control of a creature that has Equipments attached to it, do the attachments stay on the creature when I gain control?

2. If the answer is yes to #1, then what happens if the creature with the Equipments attached to it dies? I know he goes to his owner's graveyard, but do I still keep control of the Equipments? I would think not because I gained control of the creature, and I only had the equipments because they were still on him. Now that I don't control "the source", I give them back to him.

Equipment can be found in the Comprehensive Rules in section 301.7. The following is a brief summary in regards to your question:

Rule 301.7d explains that a creature that changes controllers still has the Equipment attached to it, but that Equipment is controlled by the player who cast it, not by the controller of the creature.

Therefore, only that player can activate any abilities on the Equipment, including the Equip ability. If the ability says "Equipped creature has [insert ability here]", then the creature's controller can activate that ability, not the Equipment's controller.

When the creature is removed from the battlefield, the Equipment would go back to the controller's side of the battlefield, ready to be equipped to another creature he/she controls.

When you gain control of the creature and it is equipped you will gain control of the creature with the equipment. When the creature dies it will return to the owners graveyard and equipment will be returned to owners graveyard unless the equipment card says otherwise.

If the equipment remains in play it is returned to the owner because you only took control of the creature, not the equipment. If it is not attached to the creature you control it is returned.
