Outlook 2003 - closing the program completely?

Question

I have outlook configured to do automatic send receives every so often, which is what i like to do when i am working. 

when i am not working, i like to close the program by using the red x in the upper right corner.  I have been under the assumption that this closes the program and it will stop sending and receiving emails. I have also tried going to "File/Close"

But, i continues to receive them, and it grabs them from my server before I can get them on my blackberry when i am away from the computer.

Do I have to turn the computer off to get it to stop downloading messags?

Sometimes when you close Outlook it doesn't close all the way for some reason.  I have clicked the X to close it but when i do a CTR-ALT-DEL to see what's running in the processes, Outlook still appears there.  Try closing it there and it should close.

Also, go into Outlook Tools/Account Settings(Accounts)/Select Change/More Settings/Advanced
And turn on "Leave a copy of message on the server" and then turn on the "Leave on server for X Days" and set it to like 10 or what ever you choose.  This will allow you to get them on your Blackberry, also turn that feature on, on your Blackberry and after you have gotten the mail on both, 10 days later they are deleted.

Sounds like it's set up for POP.
With POP the messages are downloaded to the computer and deleted from the server. IMAP is meant for reading e-mails on multiple computers/devices.  

Can you set it up for IMAP instead of POP.
