Origin of famous dishes.. is it possible to find a book that compiles this information?

I love to cook and always amaze me the big range of tastes and flavours you can get. I have a collection of cooking books but never found one that have all the information about famous dishes. Can somebody give me a hint of where to find it?

    i recomend the collectors section of Bam! or Barnes& Noble. Bamm has a big selection and can be browsed online at Bamm.com

    First you have to define famous dishes. Emeril has his own cookbook, alot of other chefs too Paula Deen etc.... Even Top Chef has one which I own. I would search the internet and see.

    Larousse Complete Gastronomique. It is the definitave source.A bit pricey, though.
