Killz Primer?

Hello! We're at the repainting stage of our spare bedroom project. We would like to prime the room with Killz in hopes that it will kill the cat pee smell that is on the walls. This is our first time using the product (heard good things about it), and we are unsure of what kind of Killz to purchase. We would need it for interior painting of walls. So which is the best kind to get?

I would use an enzyme pet odor product before priming. I use Odor-cide. Kilz has Original and Premium. I use the original and also have it tinted (free) the color of the finished color.

OK some of the answers are close but some are mistaken about their advice. As a long time painter I can tell you that what you want to prime with is a primer that is a sealer/stain kill. Kilz has several primers. Be sure to get one that say that is is both a sealer and a stain kill. Then you will not have a problem with the odor of anything bleeding through the primer and the top coat you will put on it.

Do you still have the cat? If so or if the walls got really wet in some areas, Kilz premium has superior mold and mildew protection. Its a bit more expensive per gallon but worth the difference if you need it. Make sure you scrub down the area with a strong detergent solution before you paint. Also if you have carpet in this room you might want to shampoo the carpet before you paint the baseboards. (The machine tends to bung up the baseboard, if you have new paint.) The lady suggesting kilz paint, it might work, but I'd recomend two coats, and using a color coat that also has odor protection.

    Good Luck!!!!

Killz will NOT eliminate the odor, nor will bleach, or pine oil etc... It may mask it for a little while. Look for a product called natures miracle first. use as directed then prime then paint.

Walmart has Kilz Paint now. It already has it in it! No base coat needed. It's affordable and low odor.

    Good stuff!

I just used it in my son's nursery.
