Dual Voice Coil Power handeling?
I have recently bought two MTX 8500 series 12" DVC subwoofers and i was wondering whether the 500wrms @ 4ohm rating is per coil or both the coils combined.
Thanks guys.
Ben.

Combined.
Side note: It's never a good idea to run each coil to a channel or a seperate amp. Many people have done this, but you WON'T find ANY manufacturer that shows this as a wiring method.

Its always rated for the entire subwoofer. The voice coil configuration changes how fast it can respond and makes it more accurate. so your sub is 500w Rms total and is a dual 4 ohm voice coil.
Advantage: You can wire your subs down to 2 ohms and use it with a mono amp that is stable to gain maximum power and efficiency from your amp.

It all depends, Most of the time with MTX products they rate them alot lower then they can actually handle.. Im sure its 500 overall rms power.. But it would have no problem taking a bit more without blowing it or even coming close to blowing it.
