Question about the GRE's?

I decided to go back to school and get my MBA. Most of the colleges I am applying for require GRE scores of 500+ and essay score of 4+. I am do not do well with standardized tests (My SATs were slightly below average), but I did well getting my bachelors and graduated Magna *** Laude. I'm just curious as to how the GRE's are graded? I understand each question is weighted upon the last, but is it difficult to get over a 500? Also, how strict is the grading of the essays? I'm just curious (well nervous, rather) about the test. I did buy a study book and it has helped me a ton already.

Edit: I find it amusing it censored the word above. haha!

LOL I posted one day about the different types of honors degrees - and it did the same thing to my post- although I have seen other posts (with worse words) non censored!

As for the 500 that is relatively easy to get, I would guess. the range is 200-800. 600, for each section, is the cut off for many schools, so 500 is generous. I have heard Kaplan has a good study program, with online practice tests. You can also do a practice one that you can choose not to have graded-you don't know how you have done- but you gain practice and you know what the test is like. It still costs you.
