What does it take to be a barista at Starbucks?

    Favourite answer:

Hi! I currently work at a licensed Starbucks so I can give you some insight on whether you would be a good fit or not for the job. The number one thing I would say is the most important above all else is patience, if you are some one who is not patient with people, then you will get frustrated and quit soon. Sometimes customers will be mean, rude, pushy, and demanding and you can’t say anything back to them. I don’t say this to scare you away, but it’s something we just have to put up with on a daily basis. I wouldn’t say there is a certain personality you need to have, all Baristas are different in who they are and as long as you have a positive attitude and are willing to work you should be fine. Skill-wise if you have any food service background that’s great but if you don’t that’s absolutely fine. A lot of people who work at Starbucks have never held a job before so they are taught everything they need to know (anything from drink making to cashier to drive through). Work ethic is very important because you can expect to be working with anywhere from 3 to 8 baristas at one time and there are no room for slackers when it’s busy. Everyone needs to be doing something and helping out. All in all, the job can be very stressful and if you don’t deal with stress well it might not be the job for you. We are always on our feet doing something so it’s not as easy as it looks. These are just some things to keep in mind, if you have any other questions you can update the question and I’ll be happy to answer :)

Can I get fired for having anemia?

I work at starbucks and started about 8 months ago. Lately I’ve been getting praised for my hard work by my peers and manager. I had a terrible training experience so I was the slowest person on the team till 2 months ago when I started upping my game. Today, however, I had work at 11:45 and in the middle of my shift I had a bit of a dizzy spell due to my anemia. My anemia isn’t too extreme as it comes and goes and hasn’t been too overwhelming. When I got my dizzy spell, my shift helped me sit down and my manager gave me food. She told me it’s ok and they’re here to help and that I should disclose my health problems next time but it’s ok that I didn’t. She also texted me about 2 hrs ago to check how I was feeling. Is it possible to get fired for smth like this

What kind of attitude is this called?

My dad was very rude to the waiter by saying things like the beef should be sizzling, do you understand? He did this after he told the waiter to reiterate the order. He also embarrassed the whole family by getting the family to leave the restaurant after the waiter couldn’t complete one order.

He’s also forcing this attitude in me.

Why do fast food cashiers often mishear your order?

Or more precisely, how can I ask for a cup of water so they'll understand me the first time? Within a week they misheard me thinking I said butter or barbeque instead of water cup. By now I anticipate their screw up so I speak slower and give them the details like side and to-go, but it's like they only hold one thought at a time and even then they screw up. A lot of you will defend them and find fault in me for recognizing an unpleasant truth about unskilled workers, but what's so bad about observation? Why get triggered when pointing out the absurdity of society? Do you hate comedians when they do it?

    Favourite answer:

No such place exists. A factory is going g to cost at least 150k. At least. That's just the building. You'll need equipment too. Maybe learn how much things cost in the real world before trying to sell products in it

Should an employee who says "f*** you" to customer keep job?

    Favourite answer:

I think you should stop going there. It's either the employee loses his job, or the business loses a customer. It seems fine to me almost everything that the employee said, but I think F**k You is crossing the line!

There was 1 man who asked me to work at my own expense, and I was in someone's business establishment at that time. I told him he would have to pay, for what he wanted, but I felt like telling him F**k You, so I kept my emotions under control. If he would have asked me what he did at a location that belongs to me then I would have told him F**k You.

I am the type of person who would try to earn customers, and I certainly would not want to make a paying customer unhappy, and I really don't care about customers who don't want to pay.

You are a paying customer right, and it seems like the business establishment doesn't want to have a good relationship with their customers.

It's your decision to make if you want to go back there!

Why am I not accumulating vacation hours?

I work at panera bread and when I went on vacation I had to borrow future vacation time since I did not have enough. Anyway since I've been back I still haven't accumulated any vacation hours to get out of the negative. It's still -22 hours and I've already has a few paychecks that should be getting me out of the negative but I'm not. Any idea why?

How can a young Christian man recieve respect as a leader in the workplace?

I have taken over a small restaurant located in a truck stop. I'm by far the youngest person only 20 years old. Everyone here seems angry because I'm changing the business model of the restaurant. They think I'm gonna fail and they think anytime I go on my computer im being lazy and say lots of bad things about me even if I explain im trying to work hard.. I've been nothing but very calm and respectful to everyone.. one lady even called some men to threaten me because she seems angry I'm changing the restaurant..but I'm changing it because it went out of business the way it was ran. This restaurant needs to be ran properly and I'm paying fair and square to do it.. i even listened to people wven when they wouldnt talk to me nicely.. they even came into my restaurant and moved my stuff without asking me. And I said nothing..They keep spreading lots of false rumors about me and when I attempt  to speak and get them to understand reality they always speak over me or walk away or something.. I keep trying to stick to the rule respect others and they will respect you back.. I just dont get it though.. they are hurting my reputation and making my job much harder because the truckstop and restaurant are conjoined in two. I just wish we could all get along. Some of the people here are very kind but then others just hate me and I really have no clue why. I work 90 hours a week and try very hard. And I'm nothing but nice to everyone and just try to help only.. what am I missing?

Can an employer take tips from a cashier?(Please read)?

So my girlfriend works at “El cometa” in El Paso, Texas.

I know there’s laws about tip-pooling but this doesn’t seem to fit into that.

Quick backstory: a waitress who is the store manager’s wife complained that she was not getting “enough tips”. So as you may wonder, the shift manager for my girlfriend’s shift always tries to please his boss.

The way that specific “El Cometa” works is that there’s 3 waitress’ (let’s call them team A).

    2 cashiers and 1 “corredera”(team B)(sorry I didn’t know the English word for that).

The waitress’ (Team A) always keep their own tips and the two cashiers and the corredera (Team B) always sum their tips and split them between just them. Seems fair.

Now, since the waitress complained, the shift’s manager said that team A’s tips will stay the same but team B will only get half of the tips they all made together and the other half will be given to team A so that they split it.

Sorry if it was confusing. I’ll be answering everything as soon as I can. Thank you for your time!

Can’t afford anything off a cooks pay? ?

I started a new job and they’re paying me a lot 15 the hour which is most likely why the chef treats me like I’m a piece of **** or it’s because I’m not male. I’d be lucky to get the same rate in an independently owned upscale restaurant. I’m going to be living alone soon so will most likely need two jobs. Should I look to get out of the kitchen completely because of COVID and **** pay and go back to support staff (running/ bussing ) to get the set ct hourly and tips? I have no one to fall back on or help I need to be completely self sufficient

My employer sent me home because of symptoms but no fever. Do they have to pay me?

    Favourite answer:

First, Yahoo "suggests" categories, which is one of the dumbest things ever, because they do it in a way most don't even notice.  Not your fault.

On the rest, there's no such thing as what employers "usually" do.  It's also not clear if you're on salary or if you're hourly, which will matter.  But with that said, I don't think it's a weird question.  Tell her you understand her concern and you'll do exactly what she asks of you, but you're curious if you'll get paid while you're out.  In fact, this is something she should have told you.

Why do people think it is rude to be quiet?

I bag groceries for customers at a grocery store and the customers say I'm rude because I'm not talkative. I just ask if they want their milk in a bag and say have a nice day. That is all. I'm not going to go out of my way to strike up a conversation with them. I don't like to talk. The only time I talk is if I like the customer and if I don't then I don't say much.

I'm working in the kitchen of a diner and I'm making $10 per hour. Should I complain or quit?

    Favourite answer:

Complain about what - your hours - your wages - your working conditions.

COMPLAINING rarely gets you anything at all.  Managers hate people who whine and complain.

Politely asking for a change is more likely to get attention than complaining.

If you are a manager - who are you going to listen too - the person whining and complaining about their wages, hours, or working conditions - or the person who is politely reminding the manager what a good job they have been doing and how long they have worked with the company without a change in pay and politely asking when the next raise might happen.

If politely trying to get improvements does not work - then look for a better job.  Leaving a job without something else lined up is rarely a good idea - especially with the uncertainty of the current economic situation due to the pandemic.

You might want to also consider how much the pandemic has affected the diner you are working for.  If they are getting less business than normal - they may not be able to afford to give raises right now even if they wanted to do it.
