My employer sent me home because of symptoms but no fever. Do they have to pay me?

I’m so frustrated. I’m coughing, have a stuffy nose and a horrible headache. I don’t have a fever and confirmed that at check in at my job. My Operations Manager noticed I looked and sounded like crap and told me I need to go home. I basically wasn’t given a choice. I’m in my 90 day period and she said if I’m not symptom free to stay home tomorrow. I feel weird asking if I’m going to be paid and I’ve already basically thrown hints trying to get an answer. Do employers usually pay you if they send you home without a choice?

Update:

I’m not sure how this ended up In the food service category I don’t use yahoo answers too often, I’m sorry about that. I work at a pain clinic

First, Yahoo "suggests" categories, which is one of the dumbest things ever, because they do it in a way most don't even notice.  Not your fault.

On the rest, there's no such thing as what employers "usually" do.  It's also not clear if you're on salary or if you're hourly, which will matter.  But with that said, I don't think it's a weird question.  Tell her you understand her concern and you'll do exactly what she asks of you, but you're curious if you'll get paid while you're out.  In fact, this is something she should have told you.

They do not have to pay you unless you've already earned sick leave.

Why not ask them since they are the ones making the decision.

Are you hourly? Hourly means you get paid when you are at work. If they didn't say to go home with pay, you're not getting paid.

You do not qualify for the 80 hours federal emergency paid sick leave since you are not awaiting diagnosis and you have not been instructed by a health care provider to quarantine.   You could change this by calling/emailing your doctor or going for a Covid test.   Note...the 80 hours federal emergency paid sick leave only applies to employers with less than 500 employees.
