  • Crying during first time I had sex?

It wasn't that it hurt, but every time he'd go fully in something would just trigger and I'd start balling. He tried 5 different times over the course of like 2 hours but every time I'd cry. I feel completely safe with him, I was ready, and I haven't had any past trauma, but I couldn't stop crying. Why is this?

  • Can I file for unemployment if my workplace is closed for renovations in NY?

I live in NY state (not NYC) and the restaurant where I work has been closed for 1.5 months for renovations. However, they were only supposed to be closed for a month, and I have no way of knowing when they’ll open again. Can I file for unemployment? Also, I’m only 17 and I live with my parents. Does this disqualify me?

  • What to do over the summer to build resume as an incoming college freshman?

I will be a freshman at a T20 school next year and I need to build my resume over the summer. I know I should pursue an internship of some kind. However, I don't yet know what I want to do, or even what field that's in. And truthfully, I don't understand how I'm not even old enough to get a tattoo, but I'm somehow expected to choose what I want to do for the rest of my life already.

I know I like social media, languages, math, business, and basic programming. I've thought of emailing professors to do some kind of research or something but I've heard you have to have a specific topic in mind and I have absolutely no idea of where to even start.

I've already had multiple jobs in HS, but doing monotonous work for minimum wage is pretty exhausting and I'd like to move onto something else. I don't have enough money to travel and I'm bad at self-studying things. What can I do to further my professional experience whilst not knowing what I want to do in life?

  • Any tips for college applications/admissions related anxiety?

I'm a rising senior, and I literally think about the college application process at least 9 hours a day, including when I'm at work, volunteering, tutoring, or just laying in bed at home. There's just no escaping it. I've written a few drafts of essays, but whenever I try to write more or revise/edit them, I just cannot focus and instantly worry about it not being as "perfect" as all the ones I've read online or in my Harvard essays book. The stress has also caused me to overeat a lot, and I'm not sure if it's also because of covid, but I've gained like 15 pounds since I really started to get involved with the college process. There's just so many steps---researching 15+ colleges, attending webinars/interviews (at least there's no visits bc covid-19), test scores, GPA, getting recommendations, writing essays, and choosing ED/REA/EA/RD schools, etc. all while maintaining one's normal responsibilities of life like working and doing summer assignments and whatnot. Does anyone know of any ways to cope with the stress, or relieve my anxiety so I can be more productive?

  • How does one motivate volunteers to participate in a non-profit activity in high school?

I'm not a natural born leader, yet I've been given a leadership position regarding assembling volunteers (with the whole virtual thing that's going to be another obstacle to face), so any tips on being a leader or convincing others to participate in an activity which maybe they don't care too much about at the moment would be greatly appreciated!

  • Can I get back unemployment during Covid?

I didn't think I was applicable for unemployment from my part time job when Covid started (I'm only 17 years old and I wasn't sure if I worked enough hours to get any money), so I didn't file for it. However, now I'm learning that my coworkers who are only 18 and don't live by themselves have gotten as much as $5,000, even though our restaurant was only closed for about a month and a half. I used to work 20 hours/wk, and my coworkers worked similar hours. Can I file now and get the money I might have been able to collect if I filed mid-March?

  • How much can I charge as an SAT tutor?

I received an 800 on math and 690 on reading (1490 composite---only took it once and there was a fluke with the reading section since I forgot my ID and had to sprint down the hall to get it and was super stressed out).

I'm in the 99th percentile, and I've worked at Kumon and done other volunteer tutoring for about 6 months.

I'm a rising senior in HS. How much should I be able to charge as a tutor for the SAT, either in person or virtually?

  • Do I have a shot at Cornell, Tufts, or USC?

My mom went to Harvard and WashU and expects me to go to a really good school as well. However, in 8th grade I took 4 high school classes (will show up on my transcript) and I received one A-, one B+, and two Bs. All of my high school classes, however, have been As or A+s in honors or AP classes (my GPA is 4.57).

Also, due to covid, I could only take the SAT once and got a 1490.Plus, my extracurriculars are kind of weak since I’ve had to work 2 jobs and other than volunteering for a few years, playing guitar, and being a co-President of a club I haven’t been dedicated to a whole lot.Does anyone think I could get into a college with an acceptance rate of 20% or lower?

  • What are some safety/target schools for 1490 SAT and 4.5 GPA but weak ECs?

I'm hoping my academics can make up for the fact that my ECs are not the best (nothing really standout-y). Looking for schools in New York, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, California, Texas, or Louisiana. Possible majors include Spanish&Math, or accounting or actuarial science. However, it'd be ideal to go somewhere with good all-around programs.

  • Where should I apply to college Early Decision?

Before anyone asks, I'm interested in schools in the Northeast, Midwest, Southeast, and Southwest. Also, I'm pretty undecided on my major so I really just want a school with good all around programs.

Demographics: •Upcoming senior at a public school w/ 1300 kids (no class rank) •white suburban girl from a middle class family in Buffalo NY ** however, location of the college is not an important factor for me

Test scores: 1490 SAT first try (800 math, 690 r&w) plan to retake; 5s on AP World, Psych, and US History, 4s on Chem and Lang

GPA: 4.57 ish weighted with 9 APs by end of senior year, bunch of honors

ECs: Pretty weak imo, 2 jobs (3 mid-junior year), Co-President of my school’s Spanish Club, community and volunteer tutoring since 8th grade, various honor societies, classical guitar player for 10 years, was in xc & track before immense injuries, studied abroad in Spain for a month last summer

Honors: top scorer in National Latin Exam, four “student of the year” awards at my school, volunteer awards

Misc: •I’m a decent writer, but I feel like I haven’t done anything revolutionary so I feel like my essays will be maybe 7 or 8/10 •Letters of Rec will be maybe 8 or 9/10 •Legacy at WashU and Harvard (Grad school)

  • How much should I charge as a private math tutor (rising senior in HS)?

I live in Buffalo NY in a middle to upper middle class suburb. I was contacted by a mom of two who wants me to tutor her kids (I don’t think they have any disabilities) for a few hours a week in math, and they are going into 5th grade.

However, we have not discussed prices yet, as I am not sure how much I should charge. I would say I’m very strong in math, and I have learned up until about halfway through calculus, have a perfect 800 on the math section of the SAT (plus I have a 99th percentile composite score), and I’ve gotten A+’s in all my high school math classes. I’ve done tons of volunteer tutoring and used to work as a tutor for Kumon, but have never done individual paid tutoring before. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • What colleges should I apply to?

I’m not sure which universities would be good as reach, match, and safety schools.

  • What do I do; not especially great at anything useful?

I'm a sophomore in hs with around a 4.5 gpa and I play guitar and do cross country/track but am not a standout. I want to get a job, because I am not interested in any internships. However, I'm concerned because although I get good grades I'm not really special at any subject and don't have any real interests that could be applied to a career. What do I do in life with no interests?
