  • Do I put my old or new employer down as a renting reference?

I'm moving to a new area because I'm starting a new job in the new year. I will be renting a room and have to complete a referencing check. I want to know whether I should put my old employer as a reference or my new employer. I don't really want to put my old one because the salary I'm on there is lower than what I will be on my new job and I also haven't handed in my notice yet, so I don't really want them being contacted about it. But if I put my new employer, obviously I haven't started yet so the referencing question of how long I've worked there will be 0 months. Have other been in a similar position and what did you do?

  • Should I continue pursuing her?

So about a month ago I met this girl at a LGBT speed meet. The next day I asked her out on a date (I was clear it was a date) and she said yes. The date went great and about a week later we went on a second date. She then asked me if I wanted to attend another LGBT event with her. I agreed and one of the other girls we'd met on the speed meet night asked if she could meet us there, to which we also agreed. On the night, we didn't mention to anyone that we'd been on a couple dates and she kept things very platonic, even discussing ex partners and future dating whilst we were in a group setting. Also, when everyone was saying what girls in the club were their type she asked me what my type was. She always takes about a day to respond too my messages (once she took a week because she says she didn't see my message - I had asked her out again in this message), but does usually respond. She's on and off with how chatty she is through online messaging but in person is naturally a really chatty person. I really don't know if she just wants to be friends, actually likes me as something more or is just being polite, so not to hurt my feelings. I kind of don't want to ask her out again because I feel like she might just be being polite and doesn't want to hurt me by rejecting me, but I also don't want to potentially miss an opportunity for a relationship. I don't know if this makes any difference but she's 5 years older than me and not "out" properly yet.

  • How do I create full screen website background using CSS?

I want to create a webpage with a background image that stretch's across the entire screen but the content still stays within the normal 900px width in the center. I also want to use a different background image for different section of the webpage. So for example, have a sunset picture at the top behind the header and a beach picture behind the main content. How would I code the css to do this?

Here's a link to an example of the kind of background effect I want to achieve:

  • Should I write a follow up email after an interview?

It's been 6 days since I went to a job interview. At the end of the interview they said they hope to have made a decision by what is now yesterday but I still haven't heard from them. I really want the job and she gave me her card at the end of the interview saying I could contact her if I had any questions. Should I email her and just reiterate my interest and ask her my questions about the role or ask her when i can expect to here about if I got the job or just not email her at all? Do you have an example of what I can write? Is it a bit late to do a follow up email?

  • Is this email OK for requesting work experience and do you have any general advice about asking for work experience?

Below is the email I plan to send out to companies requesting work experience. Improvements? General advice?

    Dear Sir/Madam

My name is -, I am 18, and I am writing to inquire into the possibility of a work experience or alternatively a shadowing opportunity this summer.

I have just finished college in June having received a Distinction grade in BTEC Creative Media Production and am also awaiting my grades for my studies in English Language and Literature and Applied ICT. Having finished college I am now interested in moving onto a path to take me into the media production industry.

In aid of that I am looking to gain an inside look at companies that work in the industry and hopefully learn a little bit about the different roles within the company- particularly those in editorial or production management roles- the types of responsibilities they each undertake and just gain a generally better understanding of the day to day work in a media production company.

I am hoping to do my work experience some time in the months of July or August 2014, and understanding that you are a busy business I would be glad for any number of days work experience or a shadowing opportunity, whether it be just one day or a week.

Along with this email I have also attached my CV so you can get a better understanding of my overall school and work history.

Thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you.

    Yours Sincerely,

  • What's a good career path for me?

I will be leaving college this year and am hoping to get an apprenticeship after college as I don't want to go to Uni but the trouble is that I still don't know what career path I want to go down. I've been thinking marketing or advertising as I think my A levels in ICT, English and Creative Media would be quite well suited to that career path. But I'm not sure that I'm interest in that career path. Personally I really love playing music and art and I also believe myself to be quite good at problem solving and fixing things, so when looking at jobs something that appealed to me was Engineering however I don't think my subjects or grades are relevant or good enough for that career path. So what I'm basically asking is if any one has any suggestions of what might be a good career path for someone with my A levels and interests to take?

I also did a AS level in 3D design.

  • Car won't start?

My car won't start. Yesterday when I turned the key to turn the engine on it made a funny clicking noise but still wouldn't turn on. We tried jump starting it but that wouldn't work (not sure if we did it right though). This morning it won't start at all, none of the electrics work and the engine won't even make a noise, it's just silent. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

  • What movies influenced your view on Britain?

I'm looking for people who don't live in Britain to tell me what movies have influenced how they view Britain for a school project I'm doing.

So are there any elements or scenes from a movie that you believe are a good representation of Britain? Or do you think British people drink a lot of tea and are there any movies that you've seen that have made you think that?

I hope this makes sense. I would be grateful for any replies and if you could tell me what country your from in your reply as well that would be useful to. Thank you in advance.

  • How to approach/talk someone?

I started my second year of college these week and in one of my classes there was these two girls from the previous year who i used to sit next to, they were always nice to me but we didn't talk too much. As i said this year they are in the same class and I could have sat next to them, but i didn't for some unknown stupid reason and now i don't have any friends in the class. I'm worried they think i don't like them and was trying to get away from them, I want to sit with them but i don't know how to approach them without seeming like i'm just sitting with them because no one else talks to me. Does anyone have some advice on how i could approach them and sit with them without it seeming awkward?
