  • ¿Valdemar, Catedra o Alianza para traducciones.?

    Hola,

Tengo Las obras de Guy de Maupassant en inglés de Barnes and Noble classics, pero no me gusta la traducción. He pensado en leerlo en español mejor. Estoy pensando en estos tres, pero si tienen otras opciones también, pues mejor. Gracias.

  • How tall were the Aztecs compared to the Spanish during conquest in the 16 century?

I've heard and also read Spanish chronicles that the Aztecs were big and strong. Moctezuma II was supposedly shredded and taller than many of his Aztec counterparts, which makes some sense since he was royalty and had better access to foods. Also, how tall were on average the Spanish back then?

  • What Type of Attorney Should I Contact in Order to Sue a Cannery in Alaska?

    Hi,

A friend of mine is currently working at a cannery in Alaska. He is working for Trident and wants to sue the company. Since he is currently stuck at an island working 16 hour shifts seven days a week, he does not have the time to research legal matters or to find the right attorney. Thus, he asked me to put him in contact with one and to ask him some questions. But I am not sure if I should contact an attorney from California, where him and I reside, or one from Alaska. So, from which state should I contact an attorney? I assume that the process will take a lot of his time, and perhaps he would be required to stay over there until the dispute is settled.

Also, what type of attorney should I contact? For what I know, attorneys specialize in different areas.

He also asked me if he could still sue the company if he quits.

He told me for example that there have been days where the managers have denied him and others of their breaks. And sometimes there is no water available, like to shower or to wash one's hands.

By the way, would it be hard to get a free consolation from an attorney? I just want to connect him with one so the suing process can continue in the future.

  • Why are Republicans so stubborn for when it comes to gun control?

There is a difference between "regulating" and "outlawing" guns. Many conservatives don t seem to understand this. Also, it is true that in the U.S people have the right to have guns because of the constitution, but comoom people. Just compare the weapons from the past and today. One could kill several people in seconds with a modern assault rifle.

And I don t see that much merit on the argument of self protection, in this case for example carrying a gun in public.

What would somebody with a gun do if while sitting at a coffee shop a vandal with a shot gun goes inside threatening people for money?

Unless he is an ex-navy seal or something, I doubt he would be able to shoot the vandal without getting shot first.

I feel that this obsession with guns is cultural, especially in conservative states.

It is ridiculous how so many Americans are against gun control. I mean, it is easier to buy a gun than a car. There is much more red tape in the latter when it should be the other way around.

And I wonder what you conservatives have to say about the mass shootings occurring in the states. All I see on the internet are attacks or dum responses like: "So how much did the gun free zone sign help? People need guns to protect themselves."

Also, how could the average American gun owner stand against the millitary or a police force?

Again, this is not the eighteenth century, when people used to use carbines or canons. Please enlighten me Republicans!

If you are looking for a career and not a "JOB" and looking to make Money, not just getting by, CALL NOW to change your future....competitive hourly pay vs. Commission. • How much money would I need to stay in Panama approximately, for like two to three weeks. Are my calculations realistic?

I am in a long distant relationship with a girl who lives in Panama. The last time I saw her was in May of last year in California, were I actually reside. During those times, she was studying abroad here in the U.S for a semester at a university, due to a scholarship she had obtain.

I am going to stay in the city of Panama, Panama's capital, and I plan to stay in hostels, which I found out the prices to range from 10 to 20 dollars, if one shares a room with others. From my calculations, it seems that I would not need to spend more than 35 dollars a day, all of which would include food, transportation, and a place to stay. I've only got about 1300 dollars saved up right now and about 800 available in a credit card. I saw some ticket planes that cost 500, roundtrip. That would leave me with like 800. Any feedback would be highly appreciated. I am planning on leaving around the seventeenth of this month, still not sure if to come back by February the second or until the eight.

  • Should I minor in Math. I just declared my major to English. I really need opinions please?

After going through a lot of distress in regards to what major to choose in College, I have decided to go for an English degree with a concentration on creative writing. I have been attending a community college since 2009, and I never started thinking about a major until I was like 22 years old, basically until I finished my general education requirements. I was suppose to be taking courses for my major since last Fall, but due to my overthinking, I was not able to make a decision. I started College at 19, and I also did poorly my first year. Also, taking remedial courses and not being able to register for classes due to budget cuts have prevented me to transfer sooner.

At first I looked into Philosophy, but I have heard so many comments about people, even counselors, that it is a useless degree to have. I also looked into engineering, biology, and physics, but because I have never taken a calculus or physics course, I really do not know what it really is like to be involve on this subject. I just have read and listen about it. I never considered engineering, physics, or any other hard science until last year.

Also, I would have to be here for at least another two years just to be able to transfer as an engineer major. It is not that I am not willing to do it, it is that I am still not sure what it really involves or if it is really suitable for me.

So far, I would like to work as a playwright, screen writer, or copywriter, basically to make a living in writing. I know it is really tough to make it as a writer, but I am willing to make sacrifices.

However, another thing that has been intriguing me is, what if engineering, philosophy, or any other hard science is for me?

This is the reason I am considering a minor so just in case I make a switch I do not have to start from the bottom again in school taking classes such as trigonometry. So far, I have only taken statistics, algebra 1 and 2. Math does not come easy to me, but I am decent at it. I got a B in statistics which is not too bad I assume, but I am aware statistics might be baby math compared to calculus 2.

I have not taken chemistry since I was like 16 years old, and I don't even remember anything. I like biology, but I am not sure if I would like to major in it. What I liked about biology was evolution and genetics.

I have looked into bioengineering/biomedical engineering, and astronomy/ astrophysics.

So, would a minor in math be a good compliment? Will it bring more job opportunities just in case I would do something different? Also, how much math would a math minor include? Linear Algebra?

I am considering Philosophy, but I already am majoring in something which is considered quite useless too, but it is the subject which I like that seems more practical.

    Thanks in advance

  • I am really having a hard time deciding on a major in College. I really need feedback and help please?

Hello everybody. I am a sophomore at a local City College, and I have been going through this tormenting dilemma in regards to what major to choose since last June. I have done so much research since then that it has become overwhelming. I have even taken assessment personality tests and study in depth the theories behind them in order to see what careers suit best my personality type, like the Myers Briggs and the Holland Code. I am an INFP in the former, and Artistic, Investigative, and social in the latter.

So far I have made progress in narrowing down college majors. I am undecided right now between either engineering or English. I am considering an English major with a concentration on creative writing and bioengineering In regards to engineering.

I also have been attending this Community College since 2009, and I never considered engineering before, and in order to transfer I would have to be here at least another 2 years just to be able to take the required math classes. I have only taken Algebra 1, 2, and statistics.

I have never taken a calculus or physics class, so my interest in engineering is based on what I have read regarding the major. Physics seems interesting too. I like to learn about the universe and its laws.

I love reading. I like writing. I am good at research, and I am creative. Ideally, I would like to be a playwright or work as a copyrighter. Teaching is on the list too, but I am not sure if I would just like to teach English. I like the idea of writing because it involves using my creativity, individuality, and doing research. I am somebody with a lot of imagination, and I do well with abstract concepts.

What do you all think? Another think that has made me rethink my decision in regards to choosing a major is its so called "usefulness." Would you say that it is better to major in engineering or a science like biology since they can provide me with more practical skills? I have heard that one might as well just go to the library instead of going in debt for a English degree. Personally, physics or engineering just seem intriguing, and I like the idea of improving others peoples' lives through my work. But, I also like the idea of being a writer, like working in freelance. I am not too concerned with making a lot of money, as long I can make comfortable living.

I have been in this college that long because I had to take remedial classes, and on several semesters I was not able to enroll on courses due to not registering on time or simply budget cuts. I also several times took courses that were irrelevant, which I used as a means to explore.

I have also considered Philosophy. I also already know Spanish... and I am 23..

Other fields I have looked into are philosophy, aerospace engineering, and astrophysics, but I guess in this case it does not matter much since most engineering disciplines are broad..

I accidently deleted this question..so I posted again

    Thanks in advance!

  • My local gym closed due to bankruptcy without giving further notice what should I do? Any help is appreciated?

If my local gym closed without warning permanently without further notice, am I still obliged to a membership, or does this mean I do not have a gym membership anymore?

I have been a client of this gym since 2010. Before it was Gold's gym, but then it changed to Fitness Evolution around February of this year.

For what I know I have been month to month with them because the contract was only for a year, and I got the membership previous years before.

What am I suppose to do now?

Will my account with them be transferred to another gym owner?

I have actually been thinking of cancelling the membership, but now that the gym closed, I do not know if my account was already terminated or not. The business owner should have notified his clients before all of this happened. There were even people out there who had just signed up in November and paid for the whole year in advance. Others had just signed up for a membership days before the gym totally closed!

The gym I am referring is in California. It is in the city of Commerce.

  • what do you think of the business oportunity offered by Amway? Is it a "scam" or worth the time?

On Monday at my community College while being at the career center, I meet a young man who offered me a "job." Before this happened, I was talking to one of the staff members at the center regarding transferring, careers, and scholarships. Well, when I was going to leave he told me how I was doing and what was I planning to study. Well, after telling him that I wasn't sure yet on what particular path to go, he asked me If I was working. I told him that I've been working for agencies, doing labor for warehouses, and that I was looking for something better. He than told me that his boss was looking for people. I than asked him what was the business about? He than told me that it involved marketing, such as selling products and services online, but that the information was complex and overwhelming, and I needed to speak to his boss. I agreed to meet with him and his boss On Wednesday at 8:00 PM

Well, after speaking with him on the phone on Tuesday in order to confirm that I was going to show up today, he told me to wear a suit. I again asked him what it was about, and he said that he already had told me, and that I would found out during the meeting.

Well, when I phoned him on Wednesday around the evening, he asked me if I was going to make it on time. I said yes, but I needed to take the bus. He than even offered to pick me up from home. He asked for my address, and at what time I was going to make it home. Basically, I dressed before going to College, but I did not wear the sack suit and tie. Although, I was wearing the rest, such as slacks and shoes. Well, I still managed to go home so I could get the sack suit.

Anyways, when I arrived I found out it was a multilevel marketing type of business, and personally I had a feeling it was going to end like this. I was actually a representative of PRIMERICA before, so I was able to identify that this was MLM quickly. It turned out this was Amway. I heard from the speaker all those great stories, and how this is a wonderfully opportunity. They even invited me to come to another meeting in order to meet a couple in their late 20s who were already financially independent.

After the meeting ended, I was being pressured so I could meet with the guy who invited me and his up line. I told them that I had things to do, and I had more time for next week. Immediately after that they started to telling me that I would forget things by then and that they were only looking for a few individuals, especially those who are serious. After that the guy who invited me offered me a ride home, I told him that it was ok that I could take the bus. I talked with him for a while outside, and he was putting a lot of pressure on me. I than told him that the reason why he gave me the cd was to be able to schedule with me a presentation so I could sign up. I told him that I already knew the objections and that I knew how the structure worked. He than told me that "I didn't know anything" and that I still needed to learn the business. But seriously, everything that he was telling me was what he learned during the training meetings. I did the same thing when I was in PRIMERICA. I learned how to handle objections, what to say, and how to convince people to act quickly and not "think about it."

They did not like it that I was asking questions and that I was not letting them take control.

Because I meet him at school, he schedule an appointment with me today around ten of the morning so I could return his cd.

Personally, I did not like the atmosphere that much, and I don't like MLM. I honestly don't have a good feeling about this, and I think that PRIMERICA is more legit.

Do you guys think I should try to avoid this guys as much as possible, or am I missing facts, and it is a great opportunity?

By the way, I noticed that many of them were from India. And, supposedly many of them held degrees. I meet a lot of students in there too. Many attended prestigious schools, like USC. But, overall it seems to me like they pray on people who are in need of money, like myself.

It costs me 160 dollars to start by the way.

  • what is the difference between bioengineering and biomedical engineering. Please, I need this information?

Hi Everybody. I would like to know what is the difference between bioengineering and biomedical engineering. Basically, what do they do?

I have done research, but different sites say different things. Some even say that there is no difference between bioengineers and biomedical engineers. Others say there is a big difference.

For example, In EUREKA biomedical engineering is used as a global term which encompasses bioengineering. Whereas, in others sites say that bioengineering is the global term.

so, what do they do? Do they do things such as recombinant dna? or, do they just create systems, machines, or utensils?

    Thanks

  • Women, did I did wrong by approaching this woman on the street in order to give her advice, at night time?

Today around 8:00 PM while coming back from college, I was walking by my neighborhood in order to get home while a dog tried to attack me. By looking at it was a bullmastiff. When I saw that the dog was approaching me I simply stayed still and tried to calm down the dog. The dog was trying to bite my legs, and I knew that running would not be a wise thing to do since I had my backpack.

Well, I stayed standing for around three minutes, and once the dog walked away, I continued walking when the dog chased me again. Than, I heard a scream, which was perhaps an the dog's owner, but the dog ran again and the man was not able to get his dog.

While walking the street I live in, I saw this woman who was doing exercise, speed walking, and I stopped on the block facing her, and I told her that during that time there was a dog during the neighborhood, and that she should be alert. Well, she got offended and told me that she lives around the area and therefore she is safe. By looking at her, she seemed less than 5 feet tall and in her thirties or forties. And, because I was a little nervous and I was mumbling, I repeated myself again, and she said, "Excuse me," while walking away as fast as if I was trying to kill her.

I think I appeared as a threat, even tough I just trying to help. She gave me a look like if I had insulted her dignity. But, I guess I should have not done that, especially at night.

    Any opinions
