I would really like to learn more about the Romans, could anyone suggest any good books?

    There are so many books on Rome -- Social life and customs  and Rome, Ancient-- Civilization  that I'll let you scan the lists below. If you find a book that you think will answer your questions, check your library's catalog.  Ask your library if it can get it for you.

    I assume you mean Ancient Rome - look up Mary Beard - her books are excellent and will lead you to others.

    Michael Grant, R Syme, Robert Graves have written some excellent books. Gibbon's "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" not only includes tons of factual information but cites ancient sources as well.  You might want to read these ancient historians: Suetonius' "Lives of the Twelve Caesars", Josephus' "The Jewish Wars", Plutarch's "Lives", Tacitus, Livy, Caesar's "Commentaries on the Gallic War".
